Sr. Principal Project Controls Specialist
Description
The Sr. Principal Project Controls Specialist performs high level project controls activities in the management of engineering, procurement and construction management projects, from pre-FEED through start up and commissioning. He/she shall be capable of providing high quality project controls services on high profile projects with major clients. The Sr. Principal Project Controls Specialist may function as a Project Controls Manager on larger projects.
Essential Functions
- Support the Project Controls Manager in providing oversight of project controls activities on projects; ensuring that quality of project controls deliverables meet expected standards.
- Lead the effort to prepare and provide key reports to project management for the purposes of supporting decisions and direction of the overall project, including progress and status report. Coordinate with project directors, project managers and the project team on tracking project performance.
- Lead the effort to analyze earned value progress reports to determine project risks and assist in determining how to mitigate such risks.
- Lead the effort to ensure contractual obligations are being met on each project for items relating to project controls. Lead the implementation of change management procedures on each project, including monitoring and tracking cost and schedule trends/changes.
- Lead the effort to customize project control systems to meet specific project requirements.
- Support the Project Controls Manager in establishing and administering corporate project controls guidelines, procedures and reporting, and in making changes as necessary.
- Support the Project Controls Manager in providing training and mentoring to project controls specialists. Supervise project controls specialist(s) as required.
- Assist in developing and maintaining staffing and manpower plans, project/proposal budgets, contract plans, etc.
- Interface with in-house departments and third parties for invoicing and cost tracking purposes.
- The preferred candidate would also be capable of performing the following functions:
- Develop and maintain critical path method (CPM) project schedules, using Primavera P6, with resource and cost loading as required.
- Interface with project team members, clients, subcontractors, vendors and other stakeholders to collect data to support the development of project schedules and to perform project schedule updates.
- Prepare schedule updates and schedule analysis reports. Compare current schedule to baseline, identifying schedule variances, and potential impacts to milestone completion dates.
- Identify corrective actions that can mitigate impacts to project cost and schedule, and recommend such actions to the project team.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a Business-related major.
- 10 Years Industry Experience.
- 7-10 years Project Controls experience, with 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
- Expert in MS Project and Primavera P6.
- Expert in MS Excel .
- Familiar with workflow and processes for engineering and construction of oil and gas pipelines and associated facilities.
