EPCOR's Corporate Services group is excited to announce a full-time, permanent opportunity for a Fleet & Equipment Training and Programs Specialist. This role is part of the Corporate Learning & Development Team and is based at our Aurum site in Edmonton, Alberta.

As the Fleet & Equipment Training and Program Specialist, you will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to help EPCOR manage operational risks associated with the safe operation of our owned and leased vehicles. Key responsibilities include developing and delivering training programs for drivers and equipment operators, conducting driver skills evaluations, roadside inspections, and vehicle incident investigations, and providing mentorship on safe vehicle and equipment operation.

You will also create integrated learning materials, such as guides and handbooks, to enhance driver knowledge. Leveraging data from events, telematics, and other sources, you will identify trends, recommend improvements, conduct compliance checks, and align practices with industry standards, legislation, and EPCOR policies.

This role emphasizes fostering strong relationships with HSE, Fleet Services, internal and external customers, and vendors while championing road safety and best practices in vehicle and equipment operation.

What you’d be responsible for

You are accountable to the Fleet & Equipment Training Manager and will have the following key accountabilities (but are not limited to these):

Program development - Developing, implementing, and conducting programs to support new services such as: driver skills evaluations (road tests), vehicle incident investigations and roadside inspections, driver safety culture. This will also include providing support to driver training policies, programs, processes, standards, courses and competency assessments that reflect best practices in safe vehicle operation. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders such as fleet safety vendors, EPCOR HSE, operational business units, fleet/training groups, and employees to ensure understanding and/or improving of processes that will apply across all union jurisdictions.

Curriculum Design – Collaborating with training developers to ensure driver/operator training programs include practical and/or competency-based components. Identifying learning strategies that match learner strengths and interests.
Delivery - Collaborating with stakeholders ensuring the appropriate delivery method (e.g. classroom, eLearning etc.) and environment (e.g. training yards, vehicles, in field). Delivering engaging training and learning products in ILT or virtual formats as required.
National Safety Code - Developing processes for audit and ensuring compliance with NSC requirements and EPCOR’s driver safety program. Communicating and collaborating with fleet, training groups and SMEs. Ensuring that processes apply across all union jurisdictions.
Investigations/Inspections - Leading or participate in the investigation of EPCOR vehicle incidents to ensure that vehicle incidents are consistently investigated, classified, and appropriate preventative actions are assigned. Conducting roadside inspections of EPCOR owned vehicles based on the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance North American Out of Service standard, and providing appropriate coaching to drivers.
Telematics - Analyzing and determining trends from telematics reports and working with business units to provide mitigation strategies. Developing standardized approaches to managing driver performance and remedial coaching and training.
Policy/Research - Ensuring the driver program and NSC program reflects government transportation laws, regulations, policies, procedures and best practices. Extrapolating and translating information from company and government documentation into effective training that will ensure regulatory compliance.
Records/Examinations – Coordinating, scheduling, and conducting driver skills evaluations based on EPCOR Driver Permit classes. Contributing to the maintenance of employee training requirements and records management of course files and individual driver files based on approved file management practices and as required.
Best Practices - Tracking, researching and assessing industry best practices and legislation to ensure driver training is focused on continual improvement and exceeding expectations.
Customer Service - Building strong working relationships and collaborating with co-workers, clients, vendors and subject matter experts.



What’s required to be successful


Qualifications, experience and behaviours you possess are:

Grade 12 diploma (GED or equivalent level of secondary education).
Experience:
+ 5 (or more) years directly related to this role. + As a class 1, 3 or a 5Q driver, developing, implementing, delivering and assessing driver training. + 3+ in training delivery, including the development and delivery of competency-based technical training courses/assessments for field positions of varying levels and degrees.
Expert level of knowledge and understanding of the National Safety Code as well as Fleet industry best practices related driver safety management/training practices.
Strong subject matter expert in driving, NSC, and equipment related legislation, procedures, best practices, and NSC audit protocols.
Advanced knowledge of:
+ Industry practices and operational safety. + NSC and Driver safety management systems.
Practical knowledge of:
+ Provincial and federal transportation legislation. + Planning, coordinating and leading complex assignments. + Microsoft Office Suite of products.
Demonstrable subject matter expertise (SME) on:
+ Cargo Securement + Commercial Vehicle Operation + Defensive Driving + Hours of Service + Behavioural Based Driver Safety + Vehicle Trip Inspection (including air brakes) + Weights and Dimensions + Driver Skills Assessments + Vehicle Incident Investigation Techniques
Proven ability:
+ To provide constructive feedback, mentor and provide corrective actions when required. + In instructional design and development of training materials. + To deliver practical training in a variety of environments including training yard, vehicle, and in the field as well as in the classroom. + To operate motor vehicles equipped with air brakes. + To champion the adherence to rules and regulations.
Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License
+ Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver's permit. + A Driver Abstract (5yr. Commercial type) may be required if one is not on file. + Limited to 6 demerits or less.


Additionally these are valuable assets for the successful candidate to possess:

Class 1 license
Adult education
Experience using SharePoint and Oracle Learning Management System
Post-secondary education in business administration.
