We are seeking a skilled and motivated Special Hazards Technician
to support the installation, inspection, testing, servicing, and maintenance of fire alarm and special hazard fire suppression systems. This role involves working in live facilities and requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and code compliance.
· Troubleshoot, service, and repair fire alarm and special hazard fire suppression systems.
· Install fire suppression systems in accordance with engineered designs, applicable codes, and manufacturer specifications.
· Perform periodic inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire suppression systems.
· Diagnose and identify faults in circuits, components, and system equipment.
· Read and interpret drawings, diagrams, schematics, specifications, and operational/product manuals.
· Accurately complete and submit inspection reports, service documentation, and work orders in a timely manner.
· Navigate and apply applicable standards and codes, including
NFPA,
CAN/ULC, the
Alberta Building Code, and the
Alberta Fire Code .· Work safely in operational environments while adhering to all company and site-specific safety requirements.
· Minimum 2+ years of experience in the fire protection industry (special hazards experience considered an asset).
· Experience performing maintenance and service work in live and operational facilities.
· Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, diagrams, and technical specifications.
· Valid and up-to-date safety certifications, including WHMIS 2015, CSTS 2020, and H2S Alive.
· Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
· Physically capable of performing manual work, including lifting and carrying tools and equipment up to 50 lbs.
· Able to work in physically demanding and confined environments, including ladders, scaffolding,
aerial lifts, crawl spaces, ducts, and above ceilings.
· Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and at multiple job sites.
· Strong commitment to safety, with the ability to consistently follow and enforce safety policies and procedures .
· Manufacturer training and system-specific training will be provided to support your success in this role.
