Solar Field Technician

Position Summary

The Solar Field Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of residential and/or commercial solar energy systems. This role works in the field to ensure systems are installed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities

- Install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including panels, inverters, racking, and electrical components

- Perform system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting

- Conduct routine maintenance and service on existing solar systems

- Diagnose and repair system issues, including electrical and mechanical faults

- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and installation plans

- Ensure all work complies with local codes, safety standards, and company guidelines

- Complete required documentation, reports, and job notes accurately

- Communicate effectively with project managers, electricians, and customers as needed

- Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in good condition

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent required

- 1–3+ years of experience in solar installation, electrical work, roofing, or construction preferred

- Basic knowledge of electrical systems and solar PV systems

- Ability to read technical drawings and schematics

- NABCEP certification (or willingness to obtain) is a plus

- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

- Comfortable working at heights and in outdoor environments

Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs regularly

- Comfortable working on rooftops and ladders

- Ability to work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, sun exposure)

- Standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods

Work Environment

- Primarily field-based with travel to job sites

- May require overtime or weekend work depending on project needs
