We are currently seeking an eager self-starter looking to fill the permanent, full-time position of Software Engineer Co-op Student, based in Calgary, Alberta.
The Software Engineering Co-op Student will support the development of pipeline integrity tools for web-based applications. The role will focus on transforming various data sources into structured consumable data, and developing algorithms to support the engineering teams workflows. Over the course of the 8 to 15 month term the student will contribute to developing these various workflows, data manipulation, and storage in a cloud to web-based environment for a novel integrity analytics product.
This position reports directly to the Technology Development Manager.
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in processing large data sets
- Assist in the development and implementation of data processing pipelines
- Collaborate with the team to enhance existing tools, and creating new tools to help process data faster and more efficiently
- Work closely with senior team members to understand the project requirements
- Document data processing workflows, methodologies, and prepare reports based on techniques used
- Develop and translate manual engineering workflows into automated processes.
The requirements of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Current student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Python, with hands-on experience in libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and SciPy
- Basic understanding of JS, TS, CSS, HTML, and React
- Basic understanding of SQL and relational databases
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively in a dynamic team environment
- Familiarity with AWS is an asset
- Familiarity with JavaScript and TypeScript, and specifically React
- Some basic understanding of engineering principles would be extremely valuable
Hours for this position are primarily Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in an office environment, but there may be some testing in the field required from time to time.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain hands-on experience in applying software development to real-world pipeline integrity challenges, which will contribute to the safety and efficiency of energy infrastructure.
