Primary Role: As an Operator, you are responsible for maintaining a steady and efficient flow of steel through the machine to ensure high production levels. You will oversee machine operation, making necessary adjustments to optimize performance while minimizing downtime. Additionally, you will tag and package all processed materials accurately, ensuring they meet Pacesetter’s quality standards and customer specifications. Your role involves monitoring material movement and identifying any bottlenecks or inefficiencies in the production process. You will work closely with Operator Assistants, coordinating tasks to maintain a smooth workflow while ensuring all safety protocols and operational procedures are followed. Effective communication with team members and leadership is essential, as you will provide updates on production status, equipment issues, and quality concerns to support seamless operations.
- Adhere to Pacesetter Steel’s policies, procedures, and quality standards to ensure operational excellence.
- Follow all safety and housekeeping protocols to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Arrive on time at your workstation at the start of your shift, wearing the required uniform.
- Conduct pre-shift inspections of the production line and monitor equipment during operation, reporting any issues to Maintenance.
- Review work requirements and instructions before setting up to ensure proper execution.
- Set up, operate, and adjust machine controls to ensure proper alignment, speed, and cut quality.
- Monitor material for defects during processing and identify any quality concerns.
- Inspect tags and materials for accuracy and take micrometer readings before placing material on the mandrel.
- Immediately report any questionable material or operator errors to the Foreman.
- Ensure all customer specifications and quality requirements are met throughout the production process.
- Direct and assist operator assistants with work assignments as needed.
- Accurately record all downtime and document the cause.
- Verify that all finished and packaged materials meet Pacesetter’s quality standards and customer expectations.
- Support other service center operations when not performing primary responsibilities.
- Assist Maintenance personnel with troubleshooting equipment issues as needed.
- Education & Experience: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using computer programs and systems utilized by Pacesetter Steel Service, Inc.
- Reading & Interpretation: Ability to accurately read and interpret sales orders and processing verifications.
- Leadership & Teamwork: Demonstrates strong leadership qualities, with the ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of Operator Assistants. Capable of working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment with diverse individuals.
- Multitasking & Problem-Solving: Ability to manage multiple urgent tasks simultaneously while maintaining efficiency and attention to detail.
- Measurement & Math Skills: Proficient in using micrometers, calipers, and tape measures, with strong mathematical aptitude for calculating amounts, sizes, weights, and other measurements.
- Industry Knowledge:
- Understanding of steel product types and common material defects.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices in an industrial setting.
- Familiarity with all processing line procedures and ability to operate related equipment effectively.
- Equipment Operation: Must be forklift certified or willing to obtain certification.- Standing Constantly 5.5 hrs+/day - Walking Constantly 5.5 hrs+/day - Bending Occasionally 2.5 hrs+/day - Kneeling Occasionally 2.5 hrs+/day - Pushing/Pulling Between Occasionally 2.5hrs+/day - Lifting/Carrying Frequently Between 20 – 50lbs 2.5-5.5 hrs+/day
