Join Our Team as a Shop Foreman in Prince George
We’re hiring an experienced Shop Foreman to lead our maintenance team supporting our crushing, aggregate, and concrete operations. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with a hands-on mechanical background, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of keeping equipment fleets running safely, efficiently, and reliably.
The Shop Foreman will work hand‑in‑hand with the Maintenance Coordinator and report directly to the Maintenance Manager, ensuring coordinated maintenance planning, minimal equipment downtime, and the safe, reliable performance of our fleet.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Lead, mentor, schedule, and supervise shop technicians, mechanics, and apprentices.
- Assign, track, and review daily work orders to ensure safe, accurate, and timely completion.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and structural equipment issues.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of aggregate crushing equipment, concrete batch plant equipment, heavy mobile equipment, and highway trucks/trailers.
- Manage and maintain preventative maintenance (PM) programs and service intervals.
- Ensure maintenance documentation, inspections, work orders, and equipment logs are completed accurately.
- Coordinate outsourced repairs, warranty work, and specialized service providers.
- Maintain shop tools, equipment, and inventory; oversee parts ordering and cost controls.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and company safety requirements.
- Support field operations by responding to urgent breakdowns and coordinating repair priorities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
- Provide technical coaching and hands-on support when required.
- Red Seal certification required: Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Transport Trailer Technician, or Industrial Millwright.
- 5+ years of experience maintaining heavy equipment, crushing plants, construction or mining equipment, or concrete batch plant machinery. - 2+ years of supervisory or lead hand experience in a shop or field maintenance environment.- Strong diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Proven success working within a structured preventative maintenance program.
- Familiarity with crushing equipment, conveyors, loaders, excavators, and ready-mix equipment considered a strong asset.
- Valid driver’s license; annual driver’s abstract must be maintained in good standing.
- Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test.
- Solid technical working knowledge of heavy equipment, trucks, plant equipment, and related mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated safety leadership and strong understanding of OH&S requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Proven ability to foster a positive work environment aligned with company values.
- Highly organized, proactive, and able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Customer-focused attitude and willingness to support operations as needed..
- This role is based primarily in the shop environment with regular movement between the yard, maintenance areas, and operational equipment zones.
- Exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and heavy machinery is expected; appropriate PPE must be worn at all times.
- Occasional fieldwork may be required at crushing spreads, batch plants, and remote project sites throughout northern BC and the Yukon.
- The position requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs as part of regular diagnostic and repair duties.
- Work hours may vary based on operational needs, including occasional evenings, weekends, or call‑outs to support urgent breakdowns or peak production periods.
- Work may be performed in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Frequent interaction with mechanics, operators, supervisors, vendors, and management in a fast‑paced team environment.
- Use of tools, equipment, and machinery requires strict adherence to company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and WorkSafeBC regulations.
