Shelter Coordinator

Helpmate, Inc., a domestic violence agency in Asheville, NC, seeks to hire a full-time Shelter Coordinator. This is an exempt position reporting to the Program Director. Experience as a supervisor in a residential setting, crisis de-escalation skills, a person-centered approach, strong attention to details, and time management skills are required. The Shelter Coordinator oversees daily operations for a 22-bed domestic violence shelter through weekly meeting facilitation, supervision of shelter staff and on-site support. The Shelter Coordinator is responsible for ensuring adequate 24/7 staffing of the shelter and that residents are receiving services to meet their daily needs and long-term goals. The Shelter Coordinator makes decisions, guides staff and responds to resident concerns around conflicts, unmet needs and communal living expectations within the framework of Helpmate’s policies. This position is responsible for a rotating on-call back-up shift which requires occasional nights and weekend work.

Candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field and 3 years’ experience in social work or related field, with 2 years supervisory experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in domestic violence or a related field. Those with a commensurate combination of work and experience will also be considered.

Salary range is $53-63k+ annually. Bilingual candidates and those with relevant experience are incentivized within the pay scale.
