The Senior Wastewater Treatment Plan Operator will assume the role of Team Leader, responsible to operate and maintain the wastewater treatment facilities and equipment in order to maintain compliance with all regulatory permit requirements.
- Act as Team Leader for Control Room and Field Operators.
- Extensive operating and troubleshooting experience with the multiple hearth incinerator and the MOD 300/Ovation Control System, including being able to understand, investigate and acknowledge diagnostic alarms.
- Be able to lead the periodic trial burn and confirmatory test burns.
- Understanding of all process charts and how the data relates to plant operations to avoid operational issues and permit violations.
- Complete working knowledge of the Title V, SPDES and RCRA permits.
- Conduct plant tours and communicate with DEC and EPA regulators as well as RED management.
- Manage operational time sheets, fill shifts as needed when operator “calls in” for time off.
- Perform routine equipment and performance checks to ensure that pumps, conveyors, blowers, centrifuge, and other wastewater treatment equipment are functioning properly.
- Complete plant rounds twice per shift.
- Check and adjust controls and equipment as necessary as well as assist with repairs.
- Assist with maintaining equipment in a clean and operable condition.
- Perform routine laboratory analysis and interpret data through application of mathematical calculations.
- Accurately document and record treatment plant operational data.
- Be proficient in the LOTO process in TagsPro.
- Be proficient in Confined Space Permits.
- Be proficient in managing the flow during high rain events to avoid any overflows.
- Be proficient in dealing with spills from EBP and odor complaints.
- Be comfortable contacting customers in the event of a plant upset or other adverse issue at KL that may originate from EBP.
- Be proficient in KL PI charts – monitor the KL PI charts each shift.
- Knowledge of how to run the plant during a power loss.
- Oversee delivery and off-loading of chemicals as well as overseeing chemical inventory.
- Assist with the development and updating of standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Train new field operators and new control room operators.
- Assist control room operators and field operators as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Travel: Limited to travel within the park grounds, as required.
Setting: Work may be required to be performed under extreme weather conditions including hot and cold ambient temperatures. Work may be required where there is moderate noise levels. Employee is expected to adhere to the required personal protective equipment (PPE) policy for each situation and location. The senior operator is expected to ensure that all members of their shift wear the appropriate PPE. During performance of job duties, it may occasionally be required to bend, lift, walk, or carry equipment. Employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
- High school diploma/GED; wastewater treatment systems operator certification preferred.
- Achieve and maintain 3A Wastewater Operator’s license from DEC within 1-2 years. Level 4A license is optional.
- Ability to work a rotating shift schedule.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Extensive multiple hearth and incineration knowledge.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in wastewater treatment operations and functionality.
- Holding a 3A wastewater operator license is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of wastewater regulatory programs.
- Knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements.
- Be able to communicate effectively with customers, maintenance staff and team members.
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, RED-Rochester provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $32.00 to $45.00 per hour. This position is also eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus program.
