The Utility Technician is responsible for performing a variety of field and technical tasks related to all phases of private locating, Pre-design locating, Subsurface Utility Engineering, and Video Pipe Inspections. This position involves the operation of different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits safely and efficiently.

- Aid in training efforts for staff in operations, policies and technical procedures.
- Creates, leads and trains in safety procedures to staff in operations.
- Read and interpret utility maps/prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
- Use assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel regarding underground facilities.
- Operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
- Provide accurate documentation and/or sketches related to all locates completed.
- Operate company vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearance.
- Be able to perform manhole entry using assigned equipment and safety devices.
- Perform work in all weather conditions.
- Requires broad based knowledge of all phases of private locating, Pre-design locating, Subsurface Utility Engineering, and Video Pipe Inspections.
- Assists in providing insight into identifying and utilizing correct technology, equipment and tools needed for the department.
- Attend Groundhawk Team EOS
- Perform light excavation with a shovel to expose buried utilities when necessary.
- Receive and respond to excavation notices in accordance with established time requirements.
- Operate company vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearance.
- Follow all safety rules.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training in utilities, construction, or engineering preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Utility Locating Technician, preferably in Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE).
- Experience working in the field, preferably for a company of similar or larger scale.
- Demonstrated stability in work history (no frequent job changes preferred).
- CDL License is a plus.
- NASSCO Certification is a plus.
- GPR experience and Private Utility Locating experience are highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning and interpretation.
- Strong understanding of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
Location: Candidate will need to report to office in Athens, GA a couple times per month
