Who We Are

Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come.

This is a unionized position that falls within the Corporate Services Business Unit.

What Makes This Role Exciting

The energy sector is rapidly evolving, offering exciting new opportunities for those who want to make a difference.

The Risk Management Lead will manage the development, execution, and governance of the IESO’s enterprise risk management program, collaborating across the organization to identify, assess, monitor, and report on enterprise‑level risks. They will also ensure alignment of risk management activities with the ERM framework while supporting executive and Board reporting as well as enterprise and business planning processes.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

- Lead enterprise‑wide risk management activities, including the identification, assessment, aggregation, and monitoring of risks, while setting and guiding risk targets that support organizational objectives.

- Advise and partner with business units, Risk Owners, and senior leaders to develop effective risk response plans, strengthen governance practices, and promote a proactive, organization‑wide risk culture.

- Develop and enhance ERM frameworks, policies, standards, and training, ensuring consistent, high‑quality risk management practices and continuous improvement in risk maturity.

- Prepare and deliver comprehensive risk reporting—including ERM dashboards, corporate risk profiles, and Board‑level updates—that clearly communicate trends, emerging risks, and mitigation progress.

- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external partners to support key risk initiatives, oversee project deliverables, and ensure high‑quality, timely execution of risk‑related work.

Role Requirements

Our team consists of experts from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their unique perspectives and skills.

Education

- Requires knowledge of business principles and processes to conduct strategic business assessments, conduct research, support the development of high value risk reports, and contribute to the provision of direction, guidelines and recommendations for achieving effective management systems and business processes.

- This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of four-year University education in the appropriate field or by having the equivalent level of education.

Experience

- Requires experience in management consulting, technical and analytical knowledge and understanding of the energy industry; specifically energy systems, markets and energy management.

- Requires experience in the development, coordination and management of projects along with strong business acumen with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize and identify critical issues.

- Requires broad experience within the company and business unit environments to understand the overall business, its operations, processes, information systems and structure. Requires experience in identifying emerging business issues and business development initiatives and opportunities.

- Requires excellent communications skills and ability to advise the leadership team on complex, cross-functional issues and decisions that impact the organization’s ability to effectively manage its risk exposure and a focus on operational efficiency and speed of execution for key priorities.

- Requires a good track record for creating a means for monitoring and communicating results that is meaningful to team members and inspires continuous improvement.

- Self-directed, courageous, and highly motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build partnerships and generate consensus.

A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
