About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, the Senior Metallurgist will provide technical direction and management for all metallurgical activities within the Island Gold District mineral processing plant. The role will lead and control the activities of metallurgical study, development, testing and analyses of designs, processes and procedures relating to mineral processing and precious metal recovery.
- Promote and maintain strict adherence to health, safety, environmental and community relations concerns and regulations.
- Lead all metallurgical activities in support of mineral processing operations and precious metal recovery.
- Guide the development and implementation of metallurgical study, testing and analysis of all mineral processing activity in the plant.
- Research and propose new projects for continuous process improvement and optimal plant performance.
- Provide guidance and coaching to the Metallurgy team; identify opportunities for training and professional development.
- Ensure metallurgical staff are aware of and compliant with gold room security procedures.
- Collaborate with mill operations, maintenance and other departments to implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Guide the Assay and Metallurgical Laboratories, maintaining a high standard and quality results within expected turnaround times.
- Guide the Process Control Engineer/Technician and other software packages to optimize the process.
- B.Sc. in Metallurgy/Metallurgical, Chemical or Materials Engineering degree.
- M.Sc. or advanced degree in Metallurgy or related field (Desirable)
- Registered as P Eng (Desirable)
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in metallurgy within a processing plant.
- Expertise in gold processing is an asset.
- Solid knowledge of OHS requirements.
- Experience in metallurgical test process design.
- Strong metallurgical accounting process knowledge.
- Tracking and optimization of wear materials.
- Experience with project management and ability to make sound project decisions.
- Solid knowledge of Delta V PCS & PI is an asset.
- Proven track record of successfully leading a team in a processing environment.
- Strong commitment to safety, health, risk management, and environmental standards.
- Start-up, operational readiness and commissioning experience is considered an asset.
- Be able to fill in as acting Chief Metallurgist in their absence.
