Our Motor Shop facilitywas originally founded in 1995. Sidewinders acquired the business in 2019 with the intent to expand operations in support of our Field Services division and to contribute towards our overall company growth goals. Our Motor Shop continues to be family owned and operated.
As part of our continued growth, we are expanding our in-house Machine Shop capabilities to support more complex motor repairs and increase our service offerings. As Senior Manual Machinist, you’ll play a key role in producing high-quality parts that support our motor services operation. This is a hands-on opportunity to work with manual lathes, mills, and other machining equipment in a clean, well-equipped facility. ● Set-up, operate, and maintain manual lathes, mills, grinders and other conventional machine tools.
● Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics to determine machining requirements.
● Accurately measure and inspect finished components using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure compliance with specifications.
● Select appropriate cutting tools, machine settings, and work holding fixtures based on job requirements.
● Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure equipment is properly calibrated and functioning.
● Monitor operations and make real-time adjustments to optimize productivity while maintaining high-quality output.
● Troubleshoot and resolve machine-related issues as needed.
● Strictly follow all safety protocols and procedures while operating machinery and handling tools.
● Work collaboratively with engineering and production teams to meet deadlines and production goals.
● Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
● Any other job-related, support activity duties as required.
Shift: Days, 7:30-4:00pm Overtime: Anticipate weekly requirements, including weekend work Reports To: Motor Services Assistant Manager
Pay Rate: $40 per hour starting rate depending on experience Location: Magna, UT (Main Street) Travel: Periodic day-trips to local client on-sites will be required. Must also have ability to travel out of state for
occasional overnight client on-sites. Expenses are covered through company bookings and per diems (we don’t expect you to be out of pocket for travel).
Tools: company provided with option to use own if preferred (reimbursed if damaged).Experience & Skills
Experienced candidates are encouraged to apply. Your initial pay rate will be based on your relevant experience and demonstrated capabilities. We will train candidates who want to get their hands dirty and work as a team.
● Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience operating manual lathes, mills, and other conventional machine tools.
● Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications.
● Strong knowledge of metal properties, cutting speeds, feeds, and tooling selection.
● Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometer, calipers, dial indicators, gauges).
● Familiarity with tolerances, surface finishes, and quality control standards.
● Ability to work independently and troubleshoot machining issues with minimal supervision.
● Solid understanding of shop math and mechanical principles.
● Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
● Be able to read, write and speak English
● Welding, fabrication and design experience or certifications
● Strong understanding of machining techniques, cutting tools, and variety of materials.
● Basic knowledge of AC/DC motors and generators
● Awareness of safe rigging practices, crane operation, and working with suspended loads is beneficial.
● Able to work in adverse conditions (indoor/outdoor)
● Able to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently
● Able to continuously perform basic physical movements such as: bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, reaching, grabbing
