Senior Logistics Manager- Flatbed Freight

VASS Pipe & Steel Co., Inc. is one of North America's largest distributors of steel pipe operating out of Houston, Texas. We primarily serve the Oil, Gas, and Energy industries and have been in business for over 45 years. We are currently seeking motivated and dedicated individuals who will join our New York corporate office (Mineola, Long Island) in a Senior Logistics Manager- Flatbed Freight capacity. Our shipments are moved out of warehouses in Houston, Texas via 53ft. flatbed trucks (common carriers) throughout the USA and Canada. VASS is continuing to grow and we are excited to welcome new team members to this opportunity.

Responsibilities:

* Coordinate the movement of freight (steel pipe) via flatbed trucks (and in some cases by rail or ocean vessels) to our customers in the Energy Oil & Gas sector from our warehouses in Houston, Texas.

* Route trucks to appropriate warehouses and stock yards located in Houston, Texas

* Negotiate cost effective freight rates with trucklines (common carriers)

* Control scheduling of shipments by notifying internal departments and customers of arrival dates

* Maintain constant contact with trucklines, drivers, warehouses, freight forwarders etc. to ensure freight is delivered on time

* Update sales personnel and customers on status of shipments daily

* Contribute to the Logistics Department to ensure proper products are shipped out

* Protect shipments by investigating causes of damages, shortages or overcharges for freight

* Provide information by answering questions and requests from sales personnel, warehouses, and customers

* Schedule pick up appointments, enter computer data, verify inventory

* Document shipments by recording/identifying details on products and trucking (Bill of Lading etc.)

*Ready and willing to assist in other departments of the company - be willing to contribute to overall company objectives/goals. Contributing to various sectors of the company's supply chain management.

*Note that this is a full-time office position (not a warehouse position)

Qualifications:

* Must have excellent negotiating and communication skills

* Computer Proficient (MS Office, Windows, etc.)

* Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced, high volume environment

* Must have a pleasant phone manner and a kind, professional workplace demeanor

* Solid basic math skills

* Excellent problem solving, time management, and organization skills

* Experienced candidates preferred but willing to train entry level candidates with the right character set

Looking for candidates who live within a 15 mile radius of Mineola, NY

Bi-lingual Spanish/English a plus (but not necessary)

Hours: Monday thru Friday 830AM-6PM [1 Hour lunch]
