Position Overview: Southern Welding is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to join our accounting department. This role requires hands-on experience with job cost accounting and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules. The ideal candidate has experience in the construction or industrial services industry and is comfortable working closely with project managers to ensure accurate financial tracking of complex jobs.
· Prepare and maintain monthly work-in-progress (WIP) schedules for active projects, ensuring timely and accurate revenue recognition in accordance with percentage-of-completion accounting
· Work closely with project managers to track project progress, verify job costs, and ensure financial records reflect the work completed and terms of the contract.
· Review and approve project-related expenses, vendor invoices, and journal entries, ensuring accuracy, proper job coding, and compliance with internal controls
· Support the billing department by validating cost data, reviewing supporting documentation, and ensuring that billings reflect the actual status of each project
· Perform detailed job cost reviews to identify margin variances, over/under billings, and cost trends that may impact project profitability
· Prepare monthly account reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts, including cash, liabilities, and accruals, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies
· Assist in the month-end close process by preparing and posting adjusting journal entries, supporting general ledger accuracy, and contributing to internal financial reporting and analysis
· Review expenses to identify capitalizable costs in accordance with company policy, and assist with maintaining the fixed asset register and recording depreciation
· Maintain organized and accurate financial documentation to support internal audits, external audits, and ongoing compliance requirements
· Participate in ongoing process improvement initiatives, helping to streamline workflows, strengthen internal controls, and enhance reporting accuracy within the accounting function
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
· Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, ideally in the construction or industrial services industry
· Strong understanding of job cost accounting and work-in-progress revenue recognition
· Proficiency with ERP systems (Acumatica experience a plus) and strong Excel skills
· Ability to work collaboratively with both accounting and operational teams
