At AREA the Statewide Safety Specialist plays a vital role in fostering a proactive safety culture among our member electric cooperatives across Alabama. This position is responsible for promoting a safety-first mindset, delivering impactful training, conducting safety audits, and supporting compliance with federal and state safety regulations. · Promote a positive safety culture through education, engagement, and leadership.
· Serve as a resource and mentor to cooperative employees on safety best practices.
· Support the development and implementation of safety initiatives and campaigns.
· Deliver engaging safety training programs tailored to various roles within the cooperatives.
· Conduct regular safety meetings, workshops, and hands-on demonstrations.
· Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure training relevance.
· Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
· Assist in the development and review of safety policies and procedures.
· Support incident investigations and root cause analyses and recommend corrective actions.
· Work closely with cooperative leadership and safety coordinators to align safety goals.
· Participate in statewide safety committees and initiatives.
· Provide on-site support during emergencies or major incidents.
· Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
· Minimum 10 years of experience in safety, preferably in the utility or electrical industry.
· Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other relevant safety regulations.
· Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), or similar certification preferred.
· Frequent travel to member cooperative sites across Alabama and Florida Panhandle.
· Fieldwork in various weather conditions and environments.
· Occasional evening or weekend work for training or emergency response.
