Job Summary
NAES is seeking a Safety Manager to support an outage at a coal-fired generating station in Wisconsin. The Safety Manager will be responsible for establishing and overseeing all site safety programs before and during the outage. This role will mobilize ahead of the outage to prepare site-specific safety plans, conduct hazard assessments, and set protocols in place. During the outage, the Safety Manager will provide leadership for all safety activities, including daily meetings, contractor oversight, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead daily safety meetings and actively participate in outage coordination meetings with plant management.
- Oversee contractor safety performance and enforce compliance with OSHA, LOTO, PPE, and site-specific procedures.
- Conduct field inspections, safety audits, and incident investigations.
- Develop and implement Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and lead toolbox talks.
- Provide coaching, direction, and corrective actions to contractors, supervisors, and staff.
- Maintain accurate documentation of safety activities, reporting daily and compiling a final outage safety closeout report.
- Potential for extended assignments post-outage at this or other client-supported sites.
- Prior safety management experience in heavy industrial, utility, or power generation environments.
- Coal plant or fossil generation safety experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, LOTO, confined space entry, fall protection, and contractor safety management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead safety programs during outages, turnarounds, or other large-scale maintenance projects.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to walk, reach, climb, stoop, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Work in confined spaces, heights, and extreme temperatures as required in a power plant.
- Outage schedule is expected to be 6×10s, with a possibility of moving to 6×12s pending management approval.
- High school diploma or GED required
- 5+ years of industry experience in energy projects, operations, and maintenance.- Professional safety certifications (CSP, ASP, CHST, etc.) strongly preferred.
