Job Title: Rock Truck Operator

Reporting to the Operations Superintendent, the Rock Truck Operator plays a key role in supporting site development during the construction phases of our open‑pit mine. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating rock trucks to haul ore, waste, and construction materials across the site. The operator ensures all hauling activities are performed in compliance with safety standards, site procedures, and operational targets. Strong communication and situational awareness are essential to maintaining safe working conditions around heavy equipment and active work areas.

This is a full‑time seasonal site‑based position, with the potential for extension depending on project progress, operational needs, and individual performance.


Responsibilities (including but not limited to):


Safety & Compliance

- Follow all site-specific safety policies, SOPs, and traffic management plans (TARP/Haul Road rules).

- Complete pre-start safety talks and JSAs/JHAs; participate in FLHA/Take-5 dynamic risk assessments, log pre-start inspection.

- Wear and maintain required PPE; practice 3-point contact and spotter protocols.

- Immediately report hazards, near misses, spills, incidents, and defects per site procedure.

- Participate in training, refresher courses, and competency assessments


Equipment Operation & Haul Cycle Management

- Safely operate articulated or rigid-frame haul trucks across varying grades, weather, and ground conditions.

- Execute efficient load–haul–dump cycles.

- Maintain payload compliance, monitor payload indicators where equipped, manage even load distribution.

- Prevent spillage and carry-back; conduct body up/down checks; use body heaters/liners as needed in freezing conditions.



Equipment Care & Minor Maintenance

- Grease/check fluids as per light-service expectations when required by site SOP.

- Support planned maintenance by communicating hours and defects accurately.


Additional Duties

- Perform all other duties as reasonably assigned


The Ideal Candidate


Education / Qualifications:

- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record suitable for site vehicle use


Experience / Skills

- Minimum 3 to 5 years of rock truck driving experience operating articulating dump trucks such as Cat 740's, Volvo A60's, etc.

- Ability to work shift work 15 days on/ 13 days off with alternating days and night shifts.

- Experience operating heavy equipment or successful completion of trainee program.

- Proficient with two-way radio communication and site signage/hand signals.

- Mine or large earthworks experience (pit operations, overburden/ore/waste hauling).

- Knowledge of Mine/Construction, BC WorkSafe regulations. BC Mines Act and Traffic Management Practices.

- Familiarity with payload management systems, collision avoidance, and fleet management.

- Work in all weather conditions; exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and uneven terrain.

- Climb ladders/steps (up to ~3 m), sit for extended periods, and perform frequent 3‑point contact.


Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.


Compensation

The expected hourly rate for this position is CAD $36, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
