We are currently seeking a Reclamation Superintendent
to join our Calgary office. Reporting to the
Manager, Liability and Closure, this role is responsible for the planning, execution, and oversight of remediation and reclamation activities across Tourmaline’s Northeast BC asset base, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective closure outcomes.
- Oversee the programming and execution of civil remediation and reclamation activities to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations
- Conduct comprehensive historical site reviews using all available information to develop execution programs, including cost estimates for budgeting purposes
- Collaborate with Remediation and Reclamation Coordinator(s) to obtain technical input and support program development
- Work cross-functionally with other Tourmaline departments as required
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of all applicable provincial regulations and guidelines
- Manage all required applications, notifications, and agreements necessary for project execution
- Supervise reclamation field supervisors (Tourmaline contractors) responsible for project execution
- Maintain daily interaction with field supervisors to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget
- Ensure reporting, investigation, and follow-up of all HSER incidents related to managed projects
- Manage vendor selection, including rate negotiation and performance evaluation
- Oversee the planning and execution of work camps and road access (including winter access) for closure projects across all closure stage gates
- Coordinate and manage field environmental assessment activities in conjunction with Remediation and Reclamation Coordinator(s)
- Ensure AFEs are generated, supplemented, reviewed, and clearly explained
- Review, scrutinize, and approve vendor invoices
- Drive continuous improvement in project safety, regulatory compliance, and cost efficiency
- Track, understand, and communicate the status of Tourmaline sites to support planning and execution of subsequent closure stages, including post-reclamation and reclamation certification
- Assist with program planning and Tourmaline’s overall liability reduction strategy
- Support acquisition due diligence activities
- Assist with the integration of acquired assets into Tourmaline’s liability data and closure programs
- Support remediation and reclamation components of ARO financial audits
- Provide technical input to support industry advocacy and regulatory initiatives aimed at reducing ARO
- Lead the implementation of new techniques and technologies to improve closure outcomes and reduce costs
- Ability to work from Tourmaline’s Calgary head office (note: this is an office-based role)
- 10+ years experience in the oil and gas industry with strong practical knowledge of environmental assessment, remediation, and/or reclamation projects- Familiar with AB (AER), BC (BCER), and SK (MER) regulations pertaining to the remediation and reclamation of upstream oil and gas sites in Western Canada
- Knowledge of broader AER and BCER liability management regulations beneficial
