The Rio Tinto Kennecott (RTK) Land and Water Development team (Land & Water Team) is responsible for managing the development of portions of RTK’s extensive land and water portfolio in the Salt Lake and Tooele valleys to generate revenue and support community goals. The thoughtful development of these land and water resources will significantly influence the future of this region. The Land & Water Team is seeking an experienced Real Estate Finance Advisor, to be based in Salt Lake City, Utah, to oversee and coordinate the financial aspects of its projects.
Reporting to the General Manager of Copper Land & Water Development, the Real Estate Finance Advisor will:
•Evaluate real estate opportunities and develop models, business cases, pro formas, and plans for new projects and strategic initiatives
•Support senior management in evaluating business opportunities and negotiating and executing projects
•Monitor, manage, and report relevant project performance indicators
•Develop, implement, and maintain financial plans and policies
•Analyze real estate market trends to contribute to strategic decisions
•Coordinate closely with other RT functions, including tax, treasury, finance, business analysis, and controllers
•Manage projects through SAP
•Assure partner compliance with contract terms
•Proactively manage Land & Water Team financial compliance and risk
•Deliver internal and external presentations
•Leverage the use of available technology, including AI
•Train and mentor other staff members on real estate finance matters
About you
The successful candidate must have:
•Bachelor's degree or higher in related discipline such as accounting, finance, economics, or engineering (with finance experience)
•Minimum 10 years of related experience
•Experience with real estate finance tools, including underwriting and public financing tools such as TIFs and PIDs
•Ability to develop and maintain business plans, financial models, and project pro formas
•Excellent presentation and report-writing skills
•Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a team across various functions to deliver business objectives
•Ability to prioritize and deliver within deadlines
•Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment
Preferred background:
•Prior experience with SAP (or equivalent)

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum, and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
