We are…
At Boyd Jones, we have over a century of construction expertise, but what truly sets us apart is our focus on people and communities. Every project we construct represents a story—of the individuals, organizations, and communities it will serve. We’re dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and delivering lasting spaces that make a difference.
How you’ll contribute…
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Utility-Scale Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System CAD Designer to join our design team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for renewable energy and a strong background in computer-aided design (CAD) with a focus on Solar PV systems. As a PV System CAD Designer, you will play a key role in translating design concepts into precise technical drawings and models that support the planning, engineering, and construction of solar energy projects.
Key Responsibilities…
•System Design: Create detailed plans for the layout of Utility-Scale PV array structures and electrical groupings, including considerations for optimal sun exposure, row pitch and ground coverage ratios, and site-specific factors including underground boring locations, flood and environmental constraints, medium voltage collections routing, road alignments, terrain effects, and shading.
•Collaborate with engineers, estimators, consultants, project managers, and other stakeholders to integrate PV system designs with overall project requirements, building plans, and construction schedules.
•Generate material takeoffs and bill of materials (BOM) based on CAD drawings, specifying quantities and dimensions of materials required for project bidding, construction, and material procurement.
•Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in PV system design, including electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
•Perform quality checks and reviews of CAD drawings to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to Client and internal design standards and project specifications.
•Support interdisciplinary coordination and communication by providing technical assistance, resolving design conflicts, and facilitating design changes as needed.
•Stay updated on advancements in CAD software, design methodologies, and industry trends related to solar PV systems, and continuously improve skills and knowledge.
What you’ll bring…
•Strong desire to understand solar energy principles, PV system components, site civil grading and stormwater management, and other design considerations.
•Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or related field.
•Proven experience in PVCase and AutoCAD Civil3D.
•Experience generating tracker grading quantities and cable quantities in PVCase is preferred.
•Experience working with Civil3D surfaces and grading objects is preferred.
•Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical drawings and models.
•Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
•Familiarity with civil, electrical, and structural engineering principles is a plus.
•Commitment to sustainability and renewable energy.
