Job Summary:
Responsible for management and oversight of the purchasing process, in conjunction with the Director of Supply Chain.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
•Evaluate vendors to determine their capability for supplying raw material/processing to established specifications; negotiate best vendor terms, pricing and delivery based on budget and schedule requirements.
•Collaborate with sales staff during the quoting process to create the most effective process path to secure new business.
•Issue purchase orders for the purpose of completing purchasing processes in accordance with established procedures.
•Maintain purchasing information, files, records (e.g. supplier pricing guides, surcharge letters, vendor files, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of documentation for sales/sales operations/accounting in compliance with established policies.
•Respond to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information, direction and/or appropriate referrals.
•Develop and foster relationships with prospective and existing suppliers via daily communication and regular onsite visits; attend relevant trade shows and various supplier functions.
•Manage and supervise purchasing staff including training, performance reviews and disciplinary action; work closely with human resources to ensure timely paperwork.
•Engage in internal & supplier discussions to address material quality issues, including working through the debit memo process.
•Monitor vendor finished good levels and track vendor on time readiness performance to assist with strategic discussions and decision making.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
•Bachelors degree in purchasing, supply chain management, or related field preferred.
•Purchasing or related experience required, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
•Management and supervisory experience strongly preferred.
•Experience with Microsoft Office Suite programs, Internet applications and database applications required.
•Valid Michigan driver license and ability to be covered on company auto insurance (based on driving record)

Physical and Environmental Requirements:
•Physical activity for extended periods of time such as computer work/keyboarding, telephone use, filing, reaching, twisting, and sitting.
•Occasional exposure to machinery and loud noises.
•Local and regional travel required for company business.
