Overview
The Purchasing Manager oversees the entire purchasing process (material takeoffs, negotiating with suppliers, ensuring quality, and timely delivery). The Purchasing Manager is responsible for setting vendor/supplier expectations, creating and releasing purchase orders, and managing the purchasing process to ensure timely delivery of materials necessary for the company's operations.
Duties
•Prepare accurate steel (structural and miscellaneous) quantity takeoffs
•Manage and utilize existing stock inventory as needed
•Solicit and assess vendor proposals
•Negotiate with vendors/suppliers for optimal terms
•Place purchase orders and issue change notices as necessary
•Communicate delivery expectations and lead time management
•Follow up with vendors/suppliers regarding purchase orders, shipments, and delivery timings
•Maintain/grow working vendor/supplier relationships for raw materials, and supplies
Skills
•Broad knowledge of steel grades, raw material specifications, and transportation logistics
•Minimum of 5 years purchasing experience in the steel and/or fabricated metal products industry
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
•Familiarity in SAGE preferred
•Ability to manage shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment
•Demonstrated skills in problem-solving and project management
•Strong analytical skills and supplier negotiation experience
