Position Overview
The Project Development and Communications Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting NEC's project and communications strategy. This role involves managing the administrative elements of projects, content creation, digital engagement, public relations activities, and project coordination. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Coordinator will collaborate with various teams to develop and disseminate clear, compelling messages that reflect NEC's mission and values, while also managing project-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Coordination
•Support the Directors in the creation of regular project status reports.
•Prepare funder reports and assist with grant application writing.
•Support organizing project-related events, including booking venues, equipment, translators, and catering.
•Assist with budget tracking, invoicing, and vendor management.
•Create project-related documents such as proposals, RFPs, permits, and safety plans.
•Oversight of some small project sub-contractors to support larger project needs.
•General support of project development activities (community engagement, feasibility studies, site assessments, procurement, etc.).
•Support the Director of Development in managing project documentation, schedules, and reports to track progress and resource allocation.
•Coordinate meetings with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and follow-up on action items.
•Maintain detailed project records, timelines, and budgets, and provide regular updates to the development team.
•Support project development activities, such as site assessments, feasibility studies, permitting, community engagement, and compliance with regulatory requirements
•Possible travelling to Nunavut, Canada
2. Communications Support
•Social media management.
•Serve as a media contact for articles, interviews, etc.
•Content creation for website and social media platforms.
•Graphic design for project materials (handouts, slides, posters, etc.).
•Coordination of photographers, videographers, or other contracted communications professionals working on project-related contracts (books, videos, etc.).
•Support with project-specific marketing/communications needs (conferences, promotional items, etc.).
Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Project Management, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
•2-3 years of experience in a project coordination, communications, or administrative support role, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
•Strong organizational abilities with attention to detail and accuracy.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience drafting content for a variety of platforms.
•Proficiency in project management tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace.
•Familiarity with renewable energy projects, permitting processes, and regulatory frameworks is preferred.
•Proficiency with visual design programs such as Canva, Publisher, or Adobe Suite would be considered an asset.
•Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and issues related to Northern Canada and Alaska is highly desirable.
