Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an organized and process-oriented individual to join our Information Services (IS) team.
As the Project Assurance Specialist, this role is a great fit for someone who likes to crunch numbers as it assists with the annual budgeting process and quarterly financial reporting as well as supports the project cost reconciliations and purchase order requisitions.
This role also delivers project methodology and guideline training to project managers and other project resources. In addition to assisting with the maintenance of projects within Oracle Projects.
You will contribute to our team by:
- Ensuring projects adhere to established controls and quarterly review compliance.
- Supporting the annual budget and IS Investment Approval Council processes.
- Assisting with financial reporting – quarterly forecasting and variances.
- Completing cost reconciliation of financials - accruals, purchase orders, invoice processing.
- Training project managers on project delivery practices and tools at Capital Power.
- Refining documentation as required including process guides and templates.
- Creating project team sites.
- Acting as lead on process and documentation inquiries for our Project Delivery team sites.
What you will bring to the role:
- Post-secondary diploma in a related business field and a minimum of 5 years related experience.
- Education equivalency may be considered.
- A minimum of two (2) years working in a Project Management Office, including working with projects with a budget in excess of $1M.
- PMI (Project Management Institute) knowledge base including: accounting fundamentals, project environment experience, and risk management concepts.
- An understanding/ knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Proficient computer and project management skills including the ability to learn and understand project management software systems; financial systems; and Microsoft Office products.
- Working-level knowledge of all tasks across the project lifestyle, including but not limited to: opportunity assessment, feasibility, initiation, design, construction, implementation, and commissioning.
- Expert level knowledge of Oracle Project Accounting.
- Significant depth of knowledge in working on IS capital and operating projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability and desire to execute, drive impact and demonstrate urgency with all tasks.
- Comfortable interacting with technical team members and bringing an attitude that always strives for the best outcomes.
- Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
Hours of Work: 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week
