GIS is seeking an experienced and motivated
Production Geologistto join our US Onshore Resources & Carbon Management team in the Midland Basin Business Unit. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in well planning, geosteering, reservoir characterization, and development strategy, while ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting operational excellence.
- Develop GeoProgs with target interval justification, pay selection, mineralogy (Quartz, TOC, clay typing), surface-to-target trajectory, shallow hazard mapping, and water sensitivity alerts.
- Collaborate with SSC and Drilling teams on trajectory feasibility and with Land/Regulatory for permits and hazard avoidance.
- Apply facies analysis and RMD for target and window selection.
- Provide geosteering support and real-time drilling input.
- Support DSU design with geologic inputs on bench targeting, landing strategy, and stacking.
- Evaluate intra-unit structure and reservoir variability.
- Assess parent/child risk and depletion impacts.
- Identify SWD zones with containment integrity.
- Prepare W-14 support documents (logs, maps, fault analysis).
- Support AOR and permitting coordination with Water Strategy and Regulatory teams.
- Provide structural interpretation and geosteering input during drilling.
- Flag geologic deviations and recommend trajectory adjustments.
- Integrate MWD/LWD data for wellbore optimization.
- Perform lookbacks to improve planning and targeting accuracy.
- Evaluate wellbore placement and recommend recompletions or production enhancements.
- Identify faulting or mechanical risks to support completions design.
- Collaborate on alternative completion technique evaluations.
- Participate in technical reviews for trades and OBO assessments.
- Develop geologic summaries for business development.
- Work with SSC and petrophysics teams to de-risk undeveloped inventory.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a Production Geologist or in a similar role in upstream oil & gas operations. - 5+ years of experience with well planning, geosteering, and trajectory optimization. - 3+ years of experience with reservoir modeling, facies analysis, and petrophysical data integration. - 3+ years of experience preparing regulatory documents and coordinating permits.- Strong knowledge of unconventional resource plays, particularly in the Midland Basin.
- Proficiency with industry software (e.g., Petrel, Landmark, GeoSteering tools).
- Master’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or related discipline.
- 7+ years of experiencein onshore unconventional development.
- Experience supporting DSU design and development strategy.
- Familiarity with SWD planning, AOR coordination, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with multidisciplinary teams.
