Baytex has an excellent opportunity for a Junior to Intermediate Operations Geologist

. This full-time position is located in our Calgary office and reports directly to the Geosciences Manager, Heavy Oil Business Unit.

Responsibilities:

- Work with the geoscience and engineering teams to execute drilling programs, including real time geosteering in collaboration with field teams

- Prepare pre-spud geology packages, including directional plans, progs, and offset data

- Interpret geological and drilling information to optimize well placement and efficiencies

- Compile and present results and learnings to senior staff and management

- Ability and ambition to take on future responsibilities including exploration, long-range planning, land management, enhanced oil recovery projects and corporate reserves

Qualifications / Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, along with 2 to 8 years of relevant work experience

- Wellsite geology or operations background is required, with experience in heavy oil horizontal, multilateral, and strat drilling preferred

- Geosteering experience (remote or onsite) is favored

- Strong knowledge of rig operations, directional drilling, striplogs/Canstrat

- Understanding of wireline well log responses and interpretations

- Ability to clearly and confidently communicate with field and office staff

- Excellent interpersonal and written communication, organization, and analytical skills

- Capability to stay composed, troubleshoot and make critical decisions in unplanned events

- Experience with mapping programs (Geoscout, Accumap) is preferred

- Current status or required qualification for membership in APEGA
