Product Engineer- Metering

Accuenergy is a Toronto-based company dedicated to research, design and manufacturing of multifunction power meters and other instruments. We also provide advanced technological solutions for distribution and industrial power system automation.

Responsibilities:

Product Support & Technical Expertise

- Serve as the subject matter expert for Accuenergy’s electrical metering, protection, and transformer product lines.

- Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams, distributors, and customers.

- Prepare and review product datasheets, manuals, and application notes.

- Support product testing for accuracy, residual current sensitivity, and ground fault detection performance.

- Verify compliance with IEC, UL, ANSI, and MID standards, especially IEC 62020-1 and IEC 60947-2 Annex M for residual current monitoring devices.

Product Development & Coordination

- Collaborate with R&D to translate customer requirements and field feedback into technical specifications.

- Participate in prototype testing and product evaluation to verify functionality, accuracy, and reliability.

- Maintain product lifecycle records, including firmware revisions and hardware changes.

Market Research & Competitive Analysis

- Conduct benchmarking of competitors’ products, features, and technical performance.

- Monitor industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging technologies.

- Provide analysis and recommendations for future product improvements or new product concepts.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with marketing and sales teams to create technical presentations and product training materials.

- Support product launch activities and ensure technical readiness for distribution and customer support.

- Coordinate with manufacturing and operations to resolve product or production-related technical issues.

Documentation & Communication

- Prepare accurate technical documentation.

- Present complex electrical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Contribute to user manuals and compliance documentation related to products.

- Ensure Occupational Health and Safety compliance with health and safety laws and regulations

- Follow all procedures in compliance of Accuenergy (Canada) Inc standard policy and operation regulations.

- Any other operation-related responsibilities may be added as company continues to grow.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.(Required)

- Experienced in electrical instrumentation, energy metering, or protection systems is a big asset.

- 3 years of experience in product support, R&D, or product engineering within the electrical measurement or protection industry.

Technical & Professional Skills

- Electrical Measurement Principles: Knowledge of AC/DC systems, residual current sensing, and energy metering fundamentals..

- Protection & Control Knowledge: Understanding of relay logic, fault detection, and coordination principles.

- Instrumentation & Sensor Integration: Experience with current transformers (CT), voltage transformers (VT/PT), Rogowski coils, Hall-effect sensors, and analog signal conditioning circuits.

- Communication Protocols & Networking: Hands-on experience with Modbus (RTU/TCP), BACnet, DNP3, IEC 61850, and SNMP; understanding of Ethernet, RS-485, and CAN-based industrial networks.

- Standards: Familiar with IEC 62020-1, IEC 61557, IEC 61000, UL 1053, and other safety and EMC requirements.

- Documentation: Skilled at creating technical documentation and customer-facing material.

- Tools: Proficient with Jira, Notion, or similar systems for product tracking and collaboration.

- Teamwork: Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills across engineering, sales, and QA functions.

Preferred (Optional)

- Familiarity with certification and testing procedures (UL, MID, IEC).

- Experience with product validation, product development cycles, and cross-functional coordination.

- Hands-on experience using power analyzers, leakage current testers, or EMC test systems.
