The Pre-Fabrication Supervisor, under the direction of the Operations Manager, will primarily be responsible for overseeing the Pre-fab division on the production floor. They will coordinate the department workflow and liaise with welding department to meet customer needs. The Prefab Supervisor must be a Journeyperson Metal Fabricator or equivalent experience and have a minimum two years of experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing setting.
Oversee project management to ensure that workflow is continuous and uninterrupted
Plan the department's workload and flow, assign daily duties to the employees to achieve maximum efficiency, adjust as required throughout the day.
Ensure employees have clear goals and are aware of expectations, post daily production targets set by Operations Manager, fill in as the day progresses and at the end of each day
Develop strategic performance metrics and targets that are consistent with company goals and standards
Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and ethical standards
Ensure that safe work practices are being followed, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment
Ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic assignment of duties, as well as hiring, discipline, and dismissal in conjunction with Operations Manager
Coordinate Job Travellers in Pre-fab area and remove from floor when job is complete
Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development based on individual needs of employees
Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback, coaching, and formal evaluations on a 30/60/90 day and annual basis
Provide informal feedback and coaching to staff on an ongoing basis
Daily review of Pre-fab timesheets to ensure accuracy of time directed to the correct job and step
Be involved in manufacturing of new products, learn and help employees find the best way to complete both new and outstanding projects, in compliance with company policies and standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and on-time delivery to ensure customer satisfaction
Communicate with Weld Supervisor, ensure timely delivery of materials, work through discrepancies with parts provided, or missing parts needed to complete an order
Oversee all workmanship to ensure high standards and efficiency, including completion of random QC checks
Work with Operations Manager to identify areas of improvement in production, safety and quality standards, as well as meeting customer needs
Oversee all manufacturing and processing procedures, the setting of machine or equipment controls, as well as the production and inspection processes
Oversee and maintain inventory levels for all Pre-fab consumables and related production tools
Keep area clean and free of hazards, monitor tools and equipment and the need for repair or replacement
Keep track of drawings on the shop floor, ensure they are available when needed, kept organized and in their proper location when not in use
Two years of experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing setting
Experience in supervision and motivation of a team to achieve and exceed their goals
Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies
Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress of all direct reports
Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems
Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations
Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring and motivation of employees
Ability to initiate and model positive change Ability to adapt to new technology, including Basic IT skills (databases, MS Office, etc)
Attendance and conducting of presentations to staff and peers
Working in an office environment as well as necessary areas on the production floor
Working in a busy environment with frequent interruptions
Flexible hours are sometimes required; there is no intention for nights, weekends, holidays, excessive overtime, or unplanned travel, but customer and operational demands of the organization occasionally require it
