Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Power BI Developer / Business Analyst who is passionate about using technology to improve public health and protect the environment. This role focuses on the design and delivery of practical, maintainable business intelligence solutions—centered around Power BI—for municipal water and wastewater utilities across the country.
You’ll work alongside engineers, planners, and scientists to translate user needs into intuitive data models and dashboards. We're looking for someone who combines foundational data engineering and semantic modeling skills with a strong grasp of front-end report design. Your ability to understand business processes, communicate with stakeholders, and deliver well-structured Power BI solutions is key.
Key Responsibilities:
•Design, build, and maintain Power BI datasets, semantic models, measures, and interactive reports.
•Develop Power Query (M) logic to transform and shape source data from a variety of systems.
•Work with users to understand reporting needs, define use cases, and implement intuitive UI/UX designs.
•Collaborate with engineers and project teams to align dashboards with operational workflows and business goals.
•Write clear documentation, support training, and maintain versioned datasets and reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related STEM field.
•1-3 years of work experience in data engineering, Power BI development, or business analytics
•Proficiency in Power Query (M), DAX, basic SQL and Python.
•Excellent communication skills; able to translate between technical and business language.
•Detail-oriented with good judgment and an independent, problem-solving mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Microsoft Power BI certification.
•Exposure to Azure services (e.g., Synapse, Data Factory, SQL DB) or Power Platform tools (Power Automate, Power Apps).
•Coursework or experience in environmental science, water quality, systems engineering, or logistics.
•Ability to apply UI/UX and visual design principles to build clear, impactful dashboards.
