The Commercial Analyst (or CA) role supports all day-to-day running of the trading desk, ensuring a detailed position summary is kept for the trader and for the matrix as a whole (if applicable) as well as ensuring exposures are actively monitored during the trading day. This will involve consolidation of various data for the trading matrix both from within the Vitol MIS infrastructure and external. The CA is also accountable for a broader range of activities on the desk, e.g. risk modeling of trades and ensuring exposure is properly documented and calculated in a consistent manner, the monitoring of futures that are near expiry, and determining what to hedge in coordination with the Traders.
The CA works closely with all other Vitol departments to ensure accurate information needed throughout the lifespan of a transaction from execution to settlement is held in Vista. The CA is expected to provide commentary on the daily profitability reports to explain P&L movements - this requires the CA to have a strong understanding of the P&L drivers and other relevant market information related to the matrix. The CA provides all management information and decision support to the Trader, e.g. creating reports and/or undertaking general modeling and analysis on behalf of Trader. In many cases, this may involve other activities such as rolling storage or internal projects such as supporting the setup of a new business and working with MIS.
