Duckett Creek Sanitary District is now accepting applications for the position of Plant Operator.
This position is responsible for the daily operations of the wastewater treatment plant(s) including Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) plants, orbital plants, activated sludge and extended aeration. Daily operations include conducting daily testing and troubleshooting, cleaning and maintaining equipment, grounds maintenance and sludge application.
- Operate and maintain a variety of computer-based record keeping systems, pumps, blowers, compressors, conveyors, sludge controls, air diffusers, filters and chemical equipment.
- Collect wastewater samples and conduct daily laboratory activities including suspended solids and stability tests.
- Perform five-day biochemical oxygen demand test and ammonia volatile solids tests including E. coli, ph and various other tests as required.
- Record results of laboratory tests on paper and on computer spreadsheets.
- Perform regular maintenance activities on plant equipment including back flushing air headers on digesters, pulling rags off clarifiers and gate valves, and cleaning clarifiers weekly.
- Participate in the sludge application program by land applying the sludge onto fields. Mandatory sludge application is required during 1st and 2nd shift.
- Perform diagnostics on equipment processes that are operating poorly.
- Operate and maintain the land application equipment, maintenance of belt filter press and other maintenance as needed at various treatment plants including aerobic and membrane bioreactor style plants.
- Ability to plan work independently once objectives are set by supervisor and to adjust the work schedule as needed to ensure continuous plant operations.
- Maintain and/or perform upkeep on district facilities such as general housekeeping, tool organization, keeping walkways cleared.
- Maintain and operate heavy equipment including dump trucks and tractors, a wheel loader, backhoes, spreaders, jib cranes, hoists.
- Respond to sewer back-ups and assist customers with cleaning.
- Perform general field labor including cleaning out sewer lines, replacing broken sewer lines, shoveling waste from drying beds and shoveling dirt and rocks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position: Working knowledge of the tools, materials, methods, equipment and practices of wastewater treatment including operation of variable frequency drives and SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems. Working knowledge of maintenance techniques for a wide variety of facility systems including membrane bioreactor (MBR). Ability to utilize a personal computer and input data into spreadsheet software. Ability to conduct laboratory tests on water samples. Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, other employees and the general public. Ability to apply common sense, collect data and conduct analysis as required solving certain problems.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered: Requires high school diploma or equivalent and special vocational school or training certification either in electrical or mechanical area. Requires a Missouri certified operator for wastewater treatment level D certification. Requires a Missouri Class A commercial driver’s license with combination vehicles endorsement and tank vehicles endorsement. Requires a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience of treatment plant and maintenance operations experience.

Starting range of $61,498-$66,898 DOQ (Full Salary Range: $61,498 -$74,998).
