The Pipeline Operator I is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of pipeline systems that transport oil, gas, and other fluids. The operator drives to field locations (compressor stations, delivery points, etc.) to monitor pipeline conditions, perform routine maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety regulations to minimize risks and maintain operational integrity.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Diagnoses and resolves issues with mechanical equipment, including stopping and restarting as necessary.
- Conducts regular inspections and performs minor maintenance tasks to meet runtime and reliability objectives.
- Aids in the development and upkeep of maintenance and operational scopes, schedules, and procedures.
- Operates compressors, pumps, valves, pipelines, and other related gas equipment.
- Performs call outs independently without assistance.
- Meets basic training and reporting requirements (UKG, CBTs, and Concur).
- Identifies, reports, and corrects safety and environmental concerns.
- Detects and reports equipment abnormalities.
- Maintains cleanliness and oversees the operation of field stations.
- Ensures compliance with pipeline regulations (OSHA, DOT, PHMSA).
- Completes “one calls” as required.
- Performs tank gauging.
- Launches and receives cleaning pigs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Possess a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.
- Understands the locations of pipelines and customer pad locations.
- Familiarity with and adherence to company policies, industry practices, and construction standards.
- Regularly uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Exhibits clear, concise, and thorough communication skills, both written and verbal, with fellow operators.
- Self-driven and able to work under close supervision.
- Completes tasks efficiently and within deadlines.
- Demonstrates the ability to adhere to all company policies and safety protocols.
- Must effectively communicate with other departments and third-party contractors.
- Possesses basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Willingness and drive to learn tasks at hand.
- Able to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on finding creative and efficient solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and focuses on fostering positive relationships with colleagues.
- Attention to detail is essential in this role.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year industry related experience in the natural gas or liquid pipeline industry preferred
- Technical certification
- Passes all required operator qualifications, written tests and performance verifications
Physical Demands and Hazard for Field Employees:
This position may require occasional travel to remote sites, potential exposure to flammable material, adherence to safety protocols, compliance with operating regulations, and will require rigorous physical demands.
