Job Purpose

The Permitting Aide develops drawings as necessary to support the acquisition of certain road opening permits for gas construction projects. Need for permit may be identified by engineering, sales, legal, project sponsors, construction support functions or other entities as needed. Performs work under supervision of management employee(s) responsible for managing and prioritizing the work required to generate permit requests.


Key Accountabilities

Generate drawings to obtain road opening permits for gas construction where Computer Aided Design (CAD) software is necessary for the level of detail required by permit agency

- .

Permits include MASSDOT, Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), and various city/town Grant of Location requests- .

Tasks associated with 'generate drawings include:

Obtain and/or assemble data required for creation of drawings. Data may include street lines, property lines, buildings and structures, existing utilities (both gas and other), etc. Level of detail for each assignment determined by permit agency requirements- - .

Draw proposed route of main and/ or trench details when required by permit agency- .

Maintain a filing system of completed drawings including data, notes, etc- .

Develop Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) to support permit drawings when required by permit agency- .

Complete permit application and submit to permit agency along with drawings- .

Perform other duties related to job content, as needed or assigned- .

Regulator station flow diagrams and shallow main waiver drawings are included- .

Generating drawings for large and/or complex projects is not required when field surveyed design plans are developed by gas engineering. Permitting Aides may still complete other tasks associated with these permits based on workload, availability and/or need- .

Permit requests outside of the bargaining unit territory may be offered to Permitting Aides based on workload, availability, and/or need- .


Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Engineering and/or Drafting is required

- .

Experience with more advanced computer programs including AutoCAD or equivalent- .

Ability to make plans, to scale, in orthographic, isometric, oblique and enlarged projections, using CAD software- .

Experience with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)- .

Experience with piping systems and components- .

Knowledge of gas construction techniques- .

Proficient in basic computer programs including Microsoft Office, basic computer skills including typing as well as experience with National Grid GIS applications and web based GIS applications such as Google Maps- .

Ability to produce neat and accurate work- .


PROGRESSION:

Progresses from Permit Aide B based on business need at management's discretion

- .

Steps within the role are automatic, annually, with satisfactory performance- .

Permit Aide A assignments include more complex permits.

Complex permit requirements may include but are not limited to longer or larger main projects, the depiction of other existing underground utilities, and/or the development of site specific traffic management plans- - .

Flow Diagrams- .

Must be capable of performing all permit duties for the various agencies supported in a timely manner- .

Perform duties of lower classifications as assigned to support workload- .

Provide training and support to Permit Aides of lower classification- .
