This exempt position functions with a high degree of autonomy and reports directly to the VP of Natural Resources, within the Corporate Operations function. This Natural Resource Manager will manage Compass Minerals real estate, mineral resources & reserves, mineral leases, entitlements and collaborate with cross-functional teams at the operating sites and in corporate.
Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following

- Collaborates with sites to develop and or maintain updated near and long-term Site Mining Plans
- Liaise with regulators, environmental / conservation stakeholders, community leaders, policy makers and legislators to ensure CMP is viewed as a positive member of the community, aware of opportunities and threats, and to ensure CMP is operating in a manner that lends itself to maintaining its ‘social license to operate’.
- Collaborates with corporate engineering to review data acquisition from drilling campaigns or other exploratory efforts to confirm, define or expand mineral resources profile
- Assist sites in developing strategies and managing matters that require engagement with external stakeholders or regulators as it pertains to mineral extraction or operating license entitlements
- Support Environment and Sustainability initiatives and management of data in the Natural Resource Information Management (NRIMs) database
- Develop basic financial models to support decision-making regarding land, water resources, water rights and mineral management strategy
- Collaborate with legal, finance and environmental functions to creatively manage opportunities or threats to NR assets identified in internal audits or assessments in a manner that is ethical, balances protection of the environment while being protective of CMP’s NR assets, as well as cost effective and prudent
- Maintain records of property documents, lease agreements, governmental obligations in Compass Minerals NRIMs database
- Perform other duties as required
- Bachelors Degree, Geology, Geography / GIS, Natural Sciences or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, MS Project, ArcGIS or Similar
- 5-7 years of mining or mineral extraction-based project experience, private sector environmental consulting in focused on siting and planning for new industrial facilities.
- Individual should have a functional understanding and comprehension of geology, mineral extraction methodologies and logic, geophysical techniques and applications, transportation and logistics, and land/mineral entitlement processes.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and assemble into an effective presentation format. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- This individual should be very determined, yet patient in pursuing longer-term objectives. The ability to influence behavior, build consensus and influence priorities in a corporate organization requires a “win-win” philosophy, good interpersonal skills
- This individual must be sensitive to the past, but make recommendations based on current best practices and corporate code of ethics. The individual will provide insight, sound judgment and practical guidance for solving current problems
- Willingness to travel 50%-75% of the time.
