Established in the Municipality of Red Lake in 1997, NWI operates, maintains and manages 50% of all municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities west of Thunder Bay to the Manitoba border, and employs over 40 professionals dedicated to setting new industry standards and best practices.
NWI has been providing water and wastewater operations, maintenance and management services to Municipal, First Nation and Industrial clients for over two decades and currently operates, maintains and manages 35 municipal water and wastewater subsystems. These systems include over 60 individual facilities that are distributed over a geographical area that is similar in size to that of France and Germany combined.
NWI is a wholly owned subsidiary of PUC Incorporated. PUC Inc. is a wholly owned private company of the Corporation of the City of Sault Ste. Marie and operates multiple utilities within the City of Sault Ste. Marie and northern Ontario.

The Municipal Manager - Atikokan Operations, is responsible for managing a team of professionals delivering industry leading services to the Municipality of Atikokan. As the Municipal Manager, your team delivers world class water & wastewater services and works closely with the municipal client in the management of these system(s) in order to ensure that residents have safe, clean water, in accordance with Federal, Provincial, and Municipal legislation, policies, and standards.
- Leads the safety and compliance culture within the operations by actively engaging with the NWI leadership team, Compliance and H&S (Health and Safety) Managers.
- Works proactively with the team to manage housekeeping, maintenance and planned capital works
- Works in partnership with the client to satisfy contractual requirements and regulatory compliance
- Manages administrative tasks including budgeting, procurement, scheduling, invoicing, reporting and approvals
- Conducts routine inspections of physical facilities
- Performs inspections of mechanical, electrical, and other building infrastructure and systems
- Compiles and submits reports to governmental agencies, departments, and relevant organizations as required
- Experience:
Possession of Class III water/wastewater operator certifications as required for the role of overall responsible operator. Note: Class II Certification may be considered, and applicants are encouraged to apply.
- Education:
Minimum educational requirement: Post-Secondary Diploma.
- Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge and experience with the Drinking Water Quality Management System (DWQMS); Proficiency in water and wastewater sampling and testing methodologies; Familiarity with inspection protocols; Experience in building maintenance
- Skills:
Intermediate understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and heating systems
- Other:
Valid G class driver’s license.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities
- Advanced mechanical aptitude
- Proven experience in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater equipment and systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Sound decision-making skills
- Effective verbal communication and team-building expertise
- Proficient public relations and public speaking skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn additional software platforms
