Responsible to drive mowing tractor (John Deere 5100 E series tractor) on various roads that are under contract to mow vegetation.
The initial focus of this position is to perform maintenance activities of highway assets and adjacent properties while exercising independent judgment and promoting safe work habits.
- Performs actions necessary to prevent excessive foliage and destruction of right–of-way areas or equipment by unwanted foliage.
- Operates a variety of heavy duty equipment including tractors, bush hogs, as well as hydraulic equipment and power tools.
- Perform physically demanding manual labor to include but, not limited to, erecting signs, landscaping activities, debris and litter control.
- Perform routine traffic control functions such as flagging and setting up work zones.
- Comply with all applicable State, Local laws, Federal OSHA requirements, and DOT regulations; assist in maintaining a safe working environment at all times.
- Perform other duties assigned.
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to carry equipment to and from assigned areas as well as use the equipment in performance of job
This position works in a variety of work environments including outdoors in all types of weather as well as directly on and near busy highways.
- Pre-trip vehicle and equipment inspections must be done.
- Make sure you have all the proper equipment and paperwork to complete your work for the shift and know where you are going and what areas are to be mowed.
- Make sure all your equipment and tools are taken care of and kept clean every day.
- Inform mechanics and mowing supervisor and manager of any breakdowns or problems.
- Use proper tractor operations at all times.
- Fill out all paperwork and turn it in to the proper individuals.
- Use proper PPE equipment during operations or mowing duties.
- Understand proper traffic control procedures.
- Learn proper operations of all equipment you are to operate; tractor, mowing equipment, etc. Understand company’s safety manual Understand what is expected of you by the company and the customer.
- Participate in training programs made available by the company.
- Learn how to fix and do preventative maintenance for common breakdowns (replacing or cleaning air filters, fixing belts, etc.).
