Job Description General Objectives:
Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, the Metallurgist works a Monday – Thursday, 10-hour schedule. The Metallurgist will be a key member of the Process team and will be involved in all aspects of metallurgy, including assay lab and metallurgical lab. This position will work with work with the process team to ensure daily production KPIs are met, reporting is accurate, and lab QAQC is acceptable.
Key Areas Of Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform and analyze the results of metallurgical testwork: bottle rolls, columns, carbon activity, etc.
- Perform the end of month, quarter, and year metallurgical balance and explain variances
- Trouble-shoot problems within the process department, communicate the solutions to the team, and implement the changes
- Support the metallurgical group in working with process operations, maintenance, and external groups to improve leach pad and plant operations
- Assist long term development groups to ensure the future success of the site by characterizing ore types and de-risking metallurgy related assumptions such as ultimate recovery, reagent consumption, acid generation, leach pad chemistry, etc.
- Perform data analysis on metallurgical data and build reports in order to better understand our processes, increase recovery, or decrease cost
- Review, recommend, and implement new or enhanced Metallurgical testing equipment or protocols with the goal of improving the metallurgical process at Marigold
- Perform all other duties as required
- Able to follow the scientific method to design experiments, perform research, analyze data, and take action to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Able to recognize occupational hazards and instigate safety precautions.
- Investigate root cause(s) of poor performing processes, identify any APC contributors, and execute corrective actions.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent Process related degree
- Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex metallurgical and processing analysis, hands-on practical application of the process optimization is highly preferred
- Heap leach, CIC, ADR experience preferred
