As our mechanical division continues to expand, we are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Mechanical Project Manager / Estimator / Design Engineer to join our growing team.
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager / Estimator / Design Engineer with a strong background in HVAC systems, boiler plants, building controls, and mechanical engineering design. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, system design, and project management, with the ability to oversee projects from concept through completion.
This role requires a well-rounded professional who can evaluate opportunities, design mechanical solutions, estimate project costs, and manage implementation in the field. The candidate will work closely with internal engineering teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to deliver high-quality mechanical projects that meet performance, budget, and timeline objectives.
The position will play a critical role in developing mechanical solutions for energy efficiency projects, HVAC upgrades, boiler replacements, building automation integrations, and large-scale mechanical retrofits across commercial and industrial facilities.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop detailed mechanical estimates.
- Perform takeoffs and develop cost models for HVAC equipment, boiler systems, pumps, piping, controls, and related mechanical infrastructure.
- Prepare complete project proposals including scope of work, equipment selections, labor estimates, and project timelines.
- Evaluate mechanical system upgrade opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost savings.
- Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers to obtain accurate equipment pricing and specifications.
- Identify value engineering opportunities to improve project performance and reduce costs.
- Assist in development of conceptual designs and budgeting during early project planning stages.
- Support sales and business development teams with technical input during client meetings and proposal development.
- Design HVAC systems, boiler plants, chilled water systems, hydronic distribution, and ventilation systems.
- Develop mechanical system layouts, equipment selections, and design calculations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to produce mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, and specifications.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and best engineering practices.
- Integrate mechanical systems with building automation and controls systems for optimized performance.
- Evaluate existing mechanical infrastructure and develop upgrade or retrofit strategies.
- Perform load calculations, system sizing, and energy efficiency evaluations.
- Coordinate with electrical and controls teams to ensure full system integration.
- Manage mechanical projects from design through installation and final commissioning.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Conduct site visits to review installation progress, verify system design implementation, and resolve field issues.
- Monitor project costs and ensure projects remain within approved budgets.
- Identify project risks and proactively address potential issues affecting schedule or budget.
- Manage procurement of equipment and materials required for project execution.
- Oversee system commissioning and startup to ensure mechanical systems operate as designed.
- Maintain clear communication with clients, providing regular project updates and technical guidance.
- Ensure all projects meet safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Serve as a mechanical subject matter expert within the organization.
- Provide technical support to internal teams including sales, operations, and engineering.
- Assist with development of mechanical standards, design templates, and best practices.
- Support troubleshooting and optimization of installed mechanical systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, system design, and project management.
- Strong experience with HVAC systems, boiler systems, hydronic systems, and mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) and controls integration.
- Experience designing and managing commercial and industrial mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of mechanical codes, industry standards, and engineering practices.
- Experience preparing detailed project estimates and cost analyses.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and managing field installations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, mechanical design software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with project management platforms and construction management tools.
- Professional Engineer (PE), PMP, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
- Salary Range: $80,000 – $120,000 (based on experience)
