NOTE: The level and salary of this position will be determined by the experience level of the candidate that is selected as indicated:

Mechanic III Minimum: $22.99 per hour

Mechanic II Minimum: $20.90 per hour

Mechanic I Minimum: $19.00 per hourÂ

Mechanic I - This is an entry-level position that requires routine, manual-type work, leading to the possible acquisition of journeyman-type skills in the repair and maintenance of Water Treatment equipment. Work includes a variety of functions related to the repair and maintenance of Water Treatment equipment, while working alongside WR Mechanic II and III, WR Electrical/Electronic Technician, WR Instrumentation and Controls Technician or other trade/craft type personnel. Reports to Water Resources Maintenance Supervisor.

Mechanic II - This is a position involving skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of equipment such as pumps, motors, chemical feeders, and flow measurement devices, in and around the Water Treatment Plant, Well Fields, and Water Repump Stations. Work performed requires considerable judgment and is performed while working alongside a WR Mechanic III, WR Electrical/Electronic Technician, or WR I&C Technician, and is subject to close inspection during progress and upon completion. Employee reports to Water Resources Maintenance Supervisor.

Mechanic III - Highly Skilled work in the operation, maintenance and repair of Water Treatment Plant, Well Field, Repump Stations, machinery and facilities. Reports to the Water Resources Maintenance Supervisor.

Special Note for In-House Applicants: Promotion into Mechanic II or III position is not automatic. Certain criteria shown on the Mechanic I, II & III job descriptions must be met before eligibility for promotion will be considered:

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment.

Ability to work standby duty, if required, on a rotational basis.

May require shift work on evenings, nights, and weekends.

Will be required to work under difficult and strenuous conditions due to nature of operating water treatment facilities.

Ability to work with hazardous chemicals associated with water treatment.

Mechanic I - Ability to learn and observe proper safety precautions and practices associated with respective work assignments. Ability to learn and observe proper safety precautions and practices associated with respective work assignments.

Ability to work with others in a team environment.

Ability and willingness to learn a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks within a prescribed time frame, as required by a monitored on-the-job training program.

Ability to perform heavy, manual type labor requiring agility, coordination and physical strength.

Ability to maintain sufficient physical health and strength to perform the manual tasks encountered in a maintenance trade within the limits of sound safety practices.

Mechanic II - Considerable knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of mechanical equipment and machinery commonly used in Water Treatment.

Considerable knowledge of the operation and care of equipment and related components such as pumps, motors, generators, air compressors, engines, wells and measuring devices. Considerable knowledge of proper safety precautions and practices associated with respective work assignments.

Demonstrate considerable working knowledge of a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks as required by the Water Resources Mechanic I training program.

Ability to perform heavy, manual type labor requiring agility, coordination and physical strength.

Ability to maintain sufficient physical health and strength to perform the manual tasks encountered in a maintenance trade within the limits of sound safety practices.

Mechanic III - Ability to inspect and detect flaws in operating machinery and mechanical equipment and effect necessary repairs and/or adjustments.

Extensive knowledge of methods, materials, supplies and tools used in the repair and maintenance of the Water Resources Department.

Extensive knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of mechanical equipment and machinery commonly used in Water Treatment.

Extensive knowledge of the operation and care of equipment and related components such as pumps, motors, generators, air compressors, engines, wells and measuring devices.

Ability to read, interpret, and record meters indicating elapsed time or Water Flows.

Extensive knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) requirements.

Ability to use precision measuring equipment for shaft alignment.

Graduation from an accredited high school, or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma accepted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).

Will be subject to random drug testing per DOT regulations and FPUA rules.

A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Mechanic I - During the first twelve (12) months of employment the employee will be required to obtain Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT'S) Maintenance of traffic (MOT) certification.

Must possess a valid State of Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or be able to acquire one in six (6) months.

Mechanic II - Two (2) years' experience as a WR Mechanic I while employed by Fort Pierce Utilities Authority or the equivalent thereof.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Level III Water Distribution License or higher.

Must possess a valid State of Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Mechanic III - Two (2) years of experience as WR Mechanic II with the Fort Pierce Utilities Authority.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Level III Water Distribution License or higher.

Must possess a valid State of Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, supplies and tools used in the repair and maintenance of the Water Resources Department.

(NOTE:Â There are also secondary functions, which the employee will be required to perform)

Installs, repairs and maintains all Water Plant, Well Field, Repump facilities equipment, including but not limited to pumps, motors, valves, gear boxes, chemical feed equipment, pneumatic controls, compressors and related components. Maintenance on the above equipment includes, but is not limited to checking shaft wear sleeves, proper periodic lubrication, adjustment of packing glands, proper pump sequence, checking for pump and motor vibration, shaft alignment, and bearing installation.

Demonstrate understanding of computer programs used in Water Resources Department on the level of their specific position.

Efficiently handle emergencies and multiple tasks simultaneously.

Â

Operates the Boom Truck in a safe and effective manner.

Â

Performs vehicle and equipment safety checklists before operating.

Performs functions that are specific to their position at jobsites for Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) as required by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

Follow proper use and safety procedures when working with hazardous chemicals associated with water treatment.

Â

Completing accurate daily work completion reports and required paperwork.

Â

Maintain pertinent documentation of all maintenance functions performed.

Â

Mechanic I -Â Performs housekeeping, janitorial and landscape/yard maintenance duties.

Cleans, repairs and assists in the installation of various types of machinery, measuring devices, pumping equipment and electrical/electronic equipment.

Â

Cleans and paints buildings, tanks, piping, valves and other equipment, machinery and facilities.

Learns the proper use of mechanical hand and power driven tools, including grinders, lawn mowers, shovels, rakes, saws, sanders, drill presses, welding equipment, testing equipment, shop tools, landscape tools, repair tools and mechanical equipment.

Mechanic IIÂ - Operate mechanical hand and power driven tools, including grinders, welding equipment, testing equipment, shop tools, landscape tools, repair tools, pipe threading machine, and mechanical equipment.

Â

Performs skilled and semiskilled type work.

Â

Performs housekeeping, janitorial and landscape/yard maintenance duties.

Â

Assist WR Mechanic III's, WR Mechanic II's WR Electrical/Electronic Technician, WR I&C Technician, welders, painters or other trade/craft type personnel in the general performance of their duties.

Â

Clean, repairs and assists in the installation of various types of machinery, measuring devices, and pumping equipment.

Cleans and paints buildings, tanks, piping, valves and other equipment, machinery and facilities.

Â

Mechanic III - Installs, repairs and maintains all Water Plant, Well Field, Repump facilities equipment, including but not limited to pumps, motors, valves, gear boxes, chemical feed equipment, pneumatic controls, compressors and related components.

Â

Maintenance on the above equipment includes, but is not limited to checking shaft wear sleeves, proper periodic lubrication, adjustment of packing glands, proper pump sequence, checking for pump and motor vibration, shaft alignment, and bearing installation.

Makes periodic mechanical equipment inspections of the Lime Softening and Reverse Osmosis Plants, Repump Stations, Storage Facilities, Surficial, Floridan, and Deep Injection Wells, and makes necessary adjustments and repairs.
