Working for the Maintenance Manager, the Materials Manager is responsible for standing up the programs and processes to lead and direct the materials function in a team oriented, nuclear environment providing long-term planning to support plant objectives for on-time delivery, inventory dollars, supplier delivery, and equipment utilization.
- Direct the activities of shipping, receiving, warehousing and support value stream material analysts to ensure appropriate training and development of personnel to meet operational needs.
- Provide overall management strategy and develop robust systems for plant inventory levels including all stores and materials needed to meet inventory goals and support demand requirements.
- Provide overall management strategy and develop robust systems to ensure plant inventory levels of stores items are maintained at a high level of physical inventory accuracy (> 97% or higher) and inventory valuation accuracy (>97%).
- Provide overall management strategy to ensure inventory losses are maintained at <3%.
- Develop and implement metrics to ensure inventory accuracy, losses, and in-process materials are accurately tracked and reported along with metrics showing inventory analysis meets operational needs (i.e., inventory items are well balanced such that excesses are limited, and zero balances do not affect continuous operations).
- Develop and implement metrics for shipping and receiving functions to ensure materials are delivered on time and with minimal issues.
- Has the authority to propose, develop and/or implement new procedures or revise existing procedures as necessary to fulfill mission objectives within the bounds of License documentation.
- Work directly with Procurement to ensure open communication is maintained on all issues.
- Responsible for monitoring and managing inventory to minimize costs including freight and expediting costs.
- Contribute to overall corporate and plant strategies by participating in interplant activities.
- Direct materials functions to assess trends, take corrective action and meet departmental, plant and corporate goals and objectives.
- Responsible to train and develop the organization to understand critical concepts and principles of materials management.
- Participate in daily strategic meetings to ensure continuity and opportunities for improvement are captured and addressed systematically.
- Program interface with Piketon Operations and other organizations as required Responsible for growing and developing a diverse workforce.
- Enforce and adhere to company policies, procedures, code of conduct, security and environmental and safety program requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Develops department budget and is responsible for spending on resources, materials, and expenses and taking appropriate actions as required.
- Broad latitude to manage and direct approximately 5 direct reports and 15 indirect reports in a manner determined necessary to meet corporate goals and milestones.
- Has authority to plan, schedule, prioritize and assign tasks to achieve the objectives, goals and milestones set forth.
- Incumbent has responsibility and authority to recommend changes in employment status including but not limited to hiring, discipline, promotion and termination for personnel working under their direction.
- Critical daily communication between the Procurement and the customer can impact the ability of personnel, equipment, and systems to perform efficiently and cost-effectively. Success in this area can save the company significant time and money. Failure in this area can result in plant and supply chain shutdown.
- Has Stop Work authority to maintain Safety, Compliance, and Production in all Materials functions and this extends to suppliers with the authority to stop incoming shipments.
- Efficient levels of inventories have a direct impact on product cost, quality, and timing. Failure to manage this inventory can significantly impact product quality and long-term operating costs.
- Critical decision making on the plants’ daily operating schedule directly impacts the cost, stability, and morale. These decisions effect long-term relationships with the customer and suppliers.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field
- 5 years working in inventory management, shipping and receiving, or related role in an industrial, manufacturing, nuclear, or similar field.
- Experience working with Procurement to set up material requirements on a daily basis.
- 5 years’ experience in management or supervisor role.
- 3 years’ experience in developing inventory requirements to ensure continuous assembly of machines and operation of the facilities.
- Familiar with the use of Microsoft Office suite on a daily basis in a business setting
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
- Experience using an inventory management software
- Experience in interviewing and hiring employees
- Experience working in a highly regulated (NRC, DOE, FDA, FAA, etc) environment
- Experience using corrective action tracking systems and managing corrective actions using a corrective action tracking system.
- Experience working in a classified nuclear environment
