REPORTS TO: Production Floor Supervisor
HOURS: 42.5 hours weekly, 7:00am - 4:00pm (includes banked time)
SUMMARY: The Material Handler is responsible for handling, moving, loading, and unloading materials by hand, or using a variety of material handling equipment to maintain orderly operations and distribute production materials and supplies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Responsible for the handling and transportation of all production related items including raw materials, misc. inventory, and finished goods.
•All items to be accounted for and put away in and/or delivered to appropriate areas.
•Compare identifying information and variety against MO's and receiving tags
•Examine incoming shipments for damage or shortages and correspond with production Team Leaders to rectify and issues.
•Complete paperwork or forms required for documentation and claims processing.
•Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies.
•Perform forklift inspections daily.
•Wrap/strap/prepare product to be moved safely.
•Ensure finished goods are removed from the production floor and delivered to the warehouse hallway in a timely manner.
•Unpack and route goods, blanks, and other materials to appropriate storage and/or production areas.
•Provide Production Team Leaders/production lines with materials required ensuring sufficient product is provided to areas to meet the production requirements.
•Maintain a clean and efficient workspace, remove all waste.
•Communicate with Team Leaders/lead hands from all areas to meet production requirements.
•Responsible for place pallets updates, locations, and accuracy.
•Provide accurate documentation to assist with maintaining an accurate inventory tracking system.
•Responsible for quality control. No damaged product is to be received or shipped/delivered.
•Recommend additions or deletions to standard stock items or ordering replenishments within standard procedures and limits.
•Ability to work within tight deadlines and time pressures.
•Ability to work independently with little guidance and minimal supervision.
•Perform all duties in accordance with established safety policies and procedures.
•Ensure that all work done is in accordance with specifications, instructions, and requirements.
•Maintains an excellent safety record; any safety incidents/infractions are reported as soon as reasonably possible.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
•Manual dexterity required for operating forklifts, machinery and moving product.
•Ability to lift up to 60 pounds repetitively
•Excellent eyesight and depth perception. Prescription eye correction is mandatory for those who require it.
•Standing for extended periods.
•Sitting for extended periods.
•Occasional climbing (stairs)
•Frequent twisting/turning, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching and lifting.
•Excellent physical health and can perform a large variety of physical activities.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Cross-train in production to assist when required.
•Schedule/coordinate garbage & recycling pick-ups with external contractor twice weekly, or as needed.
•Snow removal and general yard maintenance as required.
•Assist with training for new employees.
•Display appropriate work ethics in the workplace and group settings which provides a positive influence on company workers.
•Work as part of a team to maximize productivity and efficiency.
•Willing to be cross trained and move to other areas when needed.
•Utilize computerized or automated systems to accomplish tasks.
•Ability to work over-time and weekends occasionally, as required.
•Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
•Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
•Exposure to loud/noisy and dusty environment.
•Exposure to seasonal temperature changes (outside work in all weather conditions is required).
•Jewelry and loose fitting clothes are not permitted.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
•Forklift certification with a min. of 1 year of operating experience.
•High School Diploma, or equivalent.
•Occupational Health and Safety Awareness Training for Workers.
•Respect in the Workplace Training.
•The Right to Refuse Unsafe Work Training.
•WHMIS 2015 including the GHS for Workers and Supervisors – All Jurisdictions.
•Workplace Violence and Harassment Training for Employees (Alberta).
EQUIPMENT
•IT equipment (Computer/tablet/phone)
•Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
+ Including, but not limited to, CSA approved safety glasses and steel toe foot protection, high visibility vests, hearing protection, and hard hats
•All PPE to be kept in good repair at all times (replacements requested as required).
KNOWLEDGE
•General Safety polices & procedures.
•Acute understanding of material handling procedures and hazardous material handling.
•Knowledge of product handling and ability to differentiate between products.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
•Oral comprehension and expression; Must speak, read and write in English equivalent to the OECD Level 2 or higher.
MATHMATICAL SKILLS
•Ability to perform basic mathematical equations with precision and accuracy (basic addition/subtraction and multiplication/division equations, count, weigh & measure). Numeracy skills equivalent to the OECD Level 2 or higher.
