Job Summary:
The Field Technician will work with a team to complete construction tasks of docks, bulkheads, moorage covers, coves, beaches, and anything else related to residential marine construction related. This is a fast-paced environment that can be demanding but also extremely rewarding. Job duties include loading and unloading of job-related materials, working on the job site to pre-construct dock related structures, general maintenance of job-related tools and equipment, demolition of existing docks, driving piles, constructing dock framing, installing decking and dock accessories. This position reports to the job-site Foreman as well as the Superintendent.
The right candidate should be comfortable working in diverse settings to produce steady and functional infrastructure and products, possessing an eye for detail. Good working knowledge of wood properties and other carpentry materials and the use of all necessary tools is a must. They should be capable of working with little supervision while following all health and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
•Works with Foreman on construction projects
•Defers to Management's orders on large construction projects
•Match materials to requested design specifications
•Ability to read blue prints and use a measuring tape with the utmost accuracy
•Welding, diving, operating of heavy machinery (cranes, excavator, etc.), and/or carpentry
•Creates materials that fit the client's expectations
•Assembles sturdy and well-constructed dock framing
•Incorporates fixtures like boat cleats, ladders, bumpers, fenders, brackets and any other accessories
•Builds temporary housings and supports for setting concrete
•Combines carpentry work with joining work
•Repairs and refurbishes existing building work
•Uses power tools and other tools to cut and shape wood, metal, and other materials
•Communicates with the rest of the construction team
Requirements:
•Two (2) years of carpentry, welding, heavy machinery operating or dock building experience
•Comprehensive understanding of best building practices and job-site safety regulations and requirements
•Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches and fully grasp requirements
•Accuracy taking measurements and calculating the size and amount of material needed for a project
•Skilled in the use of all the tools necessary to cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements
•Ability to assemble/build boat docks
•Ability to work in extreme conditions for prolonged periods of time
•Must be able to multitask
•Basic understanding of computers, smartphones, MS Office and industry software
•Must have the ability to learn new skills, problem-solve, follow protocols, take initiative and lead by example
•Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record AND reliable transportation
If the candidate is not dive certified, we will provide training and must get certified within 90 days of employment*
