Assembly Wax Pattern Technician — Job Description
The Assembly Wax Pattern Technician builds and prepares wax patterns used in the investment casting process. This role focuses on assembling wax components accurately, inspecting for defects, and ensuring each pattern meets dimensional and visual standards before moving into shell‑building. The technician supports consistent product quality through careful craftsmanship, documentation, and adherence to established procedures.
- Assemble wax patterns according to wax assembly sheets / routers, and work instructions, ensuring proper fit and alignment.
- Inspect wax components for cracks, voids, contamination, warping, or dimensional issues.
- Perform wax bonding, blending, and minor repairs using approved tools and materials.
- Use gauges, fixtures, and templates to verify critical dimensions and maintain repeatability.
- Prepare wax assemblies for gating, spruing, and tree‑building operations.
- Record production data, including lot numbers, quantities, and rework performed, to maintain traceability.
- Follow all quality and safety procedures, including proper handling of hot wax and solvents.
- Communicate defects, process issues, or material concerns to supervisors or quality personnel.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area to prevent contamination and support workflow.
- Experience in wax pattern assembly, investment casting, or related manufacturing preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
- Strong manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination for detailed assembly work.
- Basic knowledge of measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Good attention to detail and ability to identify subtle defects.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Commitment to following quality, safety, and traceability requirements.
- Position includes being cross trained in wax injection and assembly positions to substitution when necessary.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing detailed work.
- Fine motor skills for handling small or delicate wax components.
- Occasional lifting of 25–40 lbs depending on assembly size.
- Ability to work near warm equipment and in environments where temperature may vary.
- Prior experience in investment casting or foundry operations.
- Experience with wax injection machines or pattern repair techniques.
