Nikkiso Expander Application Technology
(NEAT) is filling a position for a Core Design Engineer. The applicant should be a self-starter who is detail oriented, and who always has the product quality, performance, and safety in mind. They should be creative and a problem solver who is passionate about turbomachinery systems and their integrated components.
Job Overview
Turboexpander and Compressor product core unit design and mechanical calculations. Understand and design all aspects and features of turboexpander products. Become a mechanical design specialist in machinery, standardization and low-cost manufacturing methods. Actively engage in continually improving turbo expander products designs and core components to simplify, standardize, reduce cost and increase performance. Document designs and decisions in a simple and understandable manner.
Responsibilities
- Improve the process of machine design.
- Deliver the design based on the reequipments of the development project master specification.
- Have a strong understanding of product development and machine design process.
- Be proficient in the turbo machine and part design process.
- Understand machine shop practice and to be able to communicate with engineering and machine shop personnel.
- Have a strong knowledge of design and drafting practice to provide design layouts, 3-D models and 2-D drawings.
- Interact confidently and authoritatively with Engineering, marketing and application group and providing accurate technical information.
- Prepare specifications for the buyout components, such as housings, gear box, mechanical seals and other core unit components.
- Maintain up to date documentation on all responsible projects.
- To be able to work alone or in a group.
- Assist shop in issues related of turbo expanders.
- Become an expert in turbo expander core unit development and design improvements.
- Experience with Solid Works and GD&T
- Experience analyzing engineering sketches, specifications, related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape and arrangement of parts
- Ability to make equipment layouts and perform fundamental engineering calculations
- At least five years of design engineering experience
- Experience planning and formulating design engineering program and works with project team staff according to project requirements
- Ability to review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite
- In order to perform the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. may be necessary.
- Overtime may be necessary as the workload dictates. This may include week days, weekends, nights and/or holidays.
- Job will generally be performed in an office environment, but may require travel to a Client's office, production facility or industrial/construction job site. Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.

Environmental Safety Requirements
New Employee Safety Training is required by all newly hired employees, including Safety Awareness
- All safety related training is provided and tracked by the EHS Manager
- Job specific training modules deemed necessary by employee’s Manager or Director will be required of all employees on an ongoing basis
Employees are required to wear Nikkiso provided PPE as/when needed. PPE’s include, safety shoes, safety glasses, face shields, FR clothing, cryogenic gloves, cryogenic apron, cut resistant gloves, safety gloves, hearing protection, hard hats & dust masks. Failure to comply with Nikkiso ACD safety requirements will result in disciplinary actions, up to and including termination.

Experience And Education
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar field, per agreement.
- 5-10 years’ experience working as a turbo machinery engineer.
- Experience in expander-compressor units with active magnetic bearings
- Demonstrate excellence in interpersonal skills including communication, be a self-starter, have a positive make-happen attitude, to be able to handle multiple tasks, and be a team player
- Demonstrate the ability to self correct and self improve.
- Take responsibility for assignments and bring them to simple, effective conclusions.
Salary Range:
$120,000.00 - $170,000.00
