- Build and lead a brand-new Design Engineering unit, defining the vision, structure, and processes for long-term success.
- Recruit, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team while fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
- Allocate resources effectively to balance multiple priorities across geographies and project stages.
- Review and approve drawing sets, energy models, capacity tests, and technical documentation for development, permitting, and construction phases.
- Ensure designs meet all performance, quality, cost, and schedule targets while driving consistency across projects.
- Provide strategic input on system architecture, grid integration, and equipment selection for PV and BESS projects.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for design best practices and standards.
- Enhance the company’s expertise in battery energy storage systems (BESS) by incorporating more robust language, standards, and internal knowledge, sharing, recognizing that BESS is a rapidly growing market and a key area for value creation.
- Collaborate with the Business Development team to support preliminary design efforts, energy modeling, and project feasibility analyses.
- Provide early-stage design guidance to optimize project layouts, interconnection options, and overall system performance.
- Develop and refine internal design standards, workflows, and project engineering processes.
- Champion process automation and efficiency improvements.
- Perform value engineering to optimize project economics, performance, and constructability.
- Partner with the Construction Team to provide engineering support through project closeout, including as-built documentation, submittals, capacity testing, and final deliverables.
- Act as the primary liaison between internal teams, EORs, and external engineering partners.
- Coordinate efforts between multiple Engineers of Record (EORs) to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality engineering packages.
- Interface with external stakeholders, including utilities, permitting authorities, and engineering partners.
- Identify and mitigate design and interconnection risks early in the project lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, IBC, ASCE, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
- 10+ years of experience in solar, energy storage, or power system design, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.- Proven ability to manage technical teams/stakeholders, allocate resources, and deliver deliverables on schedule.
- Deep understanding of solar PV system design, electrical engineering principles, and applicable codes and standards.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on innovation and cost optimization.
- Experience working in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, PVCase, Helioscope, PVSyst, and related engineering tools.
- Ability to dedicate 5–10% of time to site meetings and site walks as needed.
