Position Description

The Manager of Corrosion Control leads a diverse team of corrosion engineers and specialists responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining Kinder Morgan’s corrosion control procedures, standards, best practices, and related programs across the Natural Gas, Products, Terminals, and CO₂ business units. This role and the Corrosion Control group provides subject matter expertise to internal stakeholders, supports regulatory compliance activities, and engages with industry trade associations (such as INGAA) and research organizations (such as PRCI) to offer feedback on regulatory developments and help advance industry processes and technologies. The position reports to the Director, Pipeline Integrity.

Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. We own an interest in or operate approximately 79,000 miles of pipelines and 139 terminals. Our pipelines transport natural gas, gasoline, crude oil, carbon dioxide (CO2) and more. Supervisory Responsibilities

- Directly supervises a team of approximately eleven corrosion engineers and specialists.

- Oversees assignment of tasks, goal-setting, performance monitoring, and annual reviews.

- Provides mentoring and technical development support for the Corrosion Control Team and field personnel.

- Serve as a subject-matter expert for internal stakeholders on technical and regulatory issues.

- Support corporate and regulatory audits.

- Contribute to development and maintenance of standards, procedures, and training.

- Support the overall Pipeline Integrity Group mission.

- Other duties as assigned.

- Employment is contingent on background check and drug screening.


Other Responsibilities

Position Requirements


Education

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a technical discipline with minimum 5–7 years of corrosion control experience (experience/education equivalencies considered).


Experience – Required

- 3–5 years of management or leadership experience.

- Significant experience in corrosion control within the natural gas and/or hazardous liquids pipeline industry.

- Demonstrated ability to support corrosion monitoring, mitigation, assessment, and program oversight.

- Experience supporting or developing standards, procedures, and technical documentation.

- Experience providing technical support to field corrosion personnel and multi-disciplinary engineering groups.

- Demonstrated strategic planning and goal-setting skills.

- Demonstrated ability to identify process gaps and implement continual improvements.

- Prior interaction with PHMSA or state regulatory agencies.

- Experience with Operator Qualification programs.


Experience – Preferred

- Experience with corrosion control program implementation across large, complex pipeline systems.

- Experience conducting or supporting failure analyses.

- Advanced proficiency with direct assessment methodologies (ECDA, ICDA, SCCDA).

- AMPP/NACE Specialist or similar advanced certifications.

- Advanced data analysis and software skills.

- Strong understanding of Federal pipeline safety regulations including 49 CFR Part 192 Subpart I and Part 195 Subpart H.

- Knowledge of corrosion control fundamentals, monitoring, mitigation associated with external corrosion, internal corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, AC interference and atmospheric corrosion.

- Knowledge of corrosion-related integrity assessment methodologies.

- Familiarity with corrosion control software such as American Innovations PCS.

- Familiarity with AMPP, API, ASME, and industry standards related to corrosion control.

Specific Knowledge - Preferred

- Working knowledge of general pipeline operations standards and practices.

- General broad knowledge of 49 CFR Parts 192, 193, and 195.

- Experience supporting metallurgical analyses or root-cause investigations.

- Experience representing organizational positions with industry organizations such as AGA, AMPP, API, INGAA, PRCI, and SGA

- Ability to perform supervisory position and supervisory responsibilities noted above.

- Ability to build, motivate, and develop a high-performing technical team.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Effective performance management and coaching skills.

- Ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and resource prioritization.

- High proficiency in Microsoft Office and data-driven systems.

- Strong organization, time management, and prioritization capabilities.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Commitment to safe and environmentally responsible practices.

- Office-based at the Houston headquarters.

- Occasional travel to field or corporate locations.

- Availability for after-hours support when required.

- Must be able to carry a company cell phone and respond as needed.

- Extended periods of sitting and computer use.
