Under close supervision, assists journeyman mechanics in performing a variety of tasks of increasing complexity and responsibility in the operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment in a wastewater treatment plant or pump station.
Essential Functions:
As a trainee, assists mechanics in repairing, overhauling, installing, testing and inspecting mechanical and electro mechanical equipment used in pumping stations and treatment plants; assists in performing preventive and predictive maintenance on equipment, building and grounds; assists in identifying equipment deficiencies and performing diagnostic testing; studies maintenance training materials and manuals; cleans equipment and facilities; prepares maintenance records; maintains a clean safe work area and works safely; meets requirements of the training program as set forth by the "Mechanical Maintenance Training Program Policy and Procedure Manual".
Additional Responsibilities:
Performs related work as required or as delegated by supervisor.
Graduation from high school, equivalent or vocational school and the ability to attain a passing grade on a written test of related skills/aptitude.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Some knowledge of tools and their uses; some understanding of the operating principles and mechanics of internal combustion engines, pumps, electric motors, etc.; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to read, comprehend and pass exams associated with the maintenance training program materials and manuals.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which the employee resides.
Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures," this position has been designated as safety sensitive and candidate must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying this position are not subject to Federal (D.O.T.) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.
