Under the direction of the Maintenance Person and upper-level maintenance personnel, the Maintenance Helper assists with repairs, setup, adjustments, welding, and lubrication activities in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Perform routine and basic maintenance tasks such as welding, changing filters, greasing and oiling shredders, balers, shears, conveyors, and similar equipment.
- Set and adjust bearings, replace and adjust belts, drives, and idlers.
- Assist upper-level maintenance personnel with moving and positioning parts, materials, and tools.
- Disassemble and reassemble machines and equipment.
- Operate company vehicle to pick up parts and materials locally.
- Operate power lift equipment to move and position materials and supplies.
- Perform torching activities as directed.
- Notify supervisor of any problems or concerns related to equipment or tools.
- Complete and maintain all required paperwork and documentation.
- Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.
- Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
- Plan work sequences to ensure effective completion of assignments.
- Act as a technical resource to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
- High school diploma required.
- Up to six months of related experience preferred.
- Ability to obtain lift equipment operator’s certificate.
- Valid driver’s license may be required.
- Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, blueprints, schematics, and symbols.
- Ability to write standard correspondence and complete documentation.
- Effective communication with other employees.
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.
- Solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Perform basic math operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and compute rate, ratio, and percent.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel. Occasional requirements include sitting, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and operating equipment with feet. Protective gear such as gloves, goggles, hard hat, safety glasses, and safety boots may be required in production areas. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
