About the role - Maintenance and Repair Fleet Manager (Alvin, TX) - 33607
We are excited to announce a new opportunity for a Maintenance and Repair Fleet Manager within our Orica Speciality Mining Chemicals team, based at our Alvin Manufacturing Site in Texas.
What you will be doing
•Register titles and tags for company-owned and leased equipment.
•Manage open accident claims and reports, providing updates to the insurance agency and updating ENABOLON system.
•Maintain vehicle records, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation according to DOT regulations and company policies, ensuring our vehicle roster is accurate and current.
•Conduct the renewal and ICMI filing for the company (depot and driving reports) as required.
•Assists in developing and managing the annual capital and O&M budgets related to vehicle acquisition. Proactively monitors expenditures, identifies variances, and recommends corrective actions to maintain financial alignment.
•Provides guidance and oversight on vehicle specifications, standardization, and acquisition planning. Ensures coordination with operational stakeholders, compliance teams, and upfitting specialists to deliver fit-for-purpose fleet assets.
•Evaluates, enhances, and implements fleet acquisition and asset lifecycle processes to ensure efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
•Drive accountability with drivers and depot/maintenance providers
•Travel to sites to audit Transwood offloading
•Equipment expert – chassis, ISO, rail cars, bulk tankers, flatbeds.
+ Can troubleshoot any problem offload to ensure customer delivery.
•Generate PO and approve maintenance requests from carriers.
•Work through inspection of equipment and log details.
•Set up 3rd party maintenance of Fleet – Rail car, ISO, Flat car.
+ UP/CN connection for any holds on equipment in transit.
•Yard management to ensure site organization of empty and full equipment and rolling stock.
•Manage the coordination equipment movement, inspection of rolling stock, railcar movements and raw material offloading (idle turnaround) with Winnemucca site.
•WMCA Site liaison to fix equipment.
Leased Equipment Management:
•Coordinate with vendors and internal operations teams to ensure all rental equipment is tracked, utilized effectively, and sourcing team is notified in a timely manner for renewal opportunities.
•Monitor rental return timelines and condition upon return, as well as review final invoices to avoid unnecessary costs.
Equipment Utilization Oversight:
•Track and analyze the utilization of in-house and rental equipment to ensure maximum operational efficiency.
•Identify opportunities to redeploy underutilized assets or schedule maintenance downtime.
What you will bring
•Associate or bachelor's degree in logistics, business administration, or a related field.
•5+ years of experience in the transportation and mechanical repair industry with direct leadership over M&R fleet operations.
Technical Skills:
A fleet manager needs a strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, including preventive maintenance, regular inspections, and record-keeping. They should also be knowledgeable about vehicle performance and be able to diagnose and address mechanical issues.
•Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal).
•Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze operational costs and material costs.
•Computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office applications and Excel.
•Knowledge of relevant regulations, such as IMDG, ADR, DOT and ITCO standards.
•Understanding of ISO standards for tank containers.
•Knowledge of emergency response procedures with faulty equipment.
•Understanding of maintenance and repair procedures for ISO tanks, rail cars, bulk tankers, and sea containers.
